FINEL 1700 1748 Massachusetts, E - U

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my research efforts regarding one EDWARD FINEL I wish to communicate with anyone researching the surname of FINEL that might have someone, or know of someone, who would have been in the Massachusetts U.S.A. area in the time period of 1700 to 1748. This man EDWARD FINEL 1, we believe had ancestry from France and was probably Christen Baptized named EDWARD, or his father was at this time. Because this man birthed a son named EDWARD FINEL; born 27 October 1748 in Massachusetts and because of the naming patterns in the U.S.A. at that time period he could have been named for his father, or his grandfather.

It is not known at this time in my researching if the first FINEL immigrated to the U.S.A., or if he might have been part of a military unit stationed in or near Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. I have been unable to determine any information relative to this man; birth, country of origin, death, or whatever.

The lady we believe to be the mother of his child could have also been a friend or relative of the real mother. Although, there are indicator’s that this lady was his mother in some of my findings.

Thank you

Hello Sandy,

My name is Michael Boot. It would appear that we are distant relatives. Our tie is Tahiti.

Back in 1904, Dr. Johnston Walter Williams, the dentist for Tahiti's Pomare royal family, was also the British Consul to the islands. My mother has the actual proclamation from Britain's King making him consul. In compensation for dental services, the king gave him the atoll of Tetearoa. Some time later he married Daisy, who was a close friend of my great grandmother, Mary Doran. In some fashion, ownership of the atoll went to Mary, who in 1966 sold it to Marlon Brando when he came to Vallejo, CA to meet her at home. I grew up there, and I present at the time of the sale. Anyway, Dr. Williams died in 1937; I haven't found anything on Daisy yet. I do know that they owned a copra plantation and probably were also in the coconut business. I have discovered that they are interred on moto Rimatuu near Tetearoa. In late December 2012 I will travel there for both professional (geographic) and genealogical research, so I will be able to find more information and probably the grave sites. I don't know of a Charles Williams in the picture, nor do I have data on how the Plomteaux family became part of the history.

Anyway, let's keep in touch. I will share with you what I find out.

Best Regards,
Michael Doran Boot

Re: Daniel Snow

HI Helen, many years later...... lol.. I believe William, Snow will be my great great grandfather. My own father is Daniel Snow whose parents were Tahitian, his older siblings were born and raised in Tahiti but my father was born on Pennryhn (sic) Island, the northern most island of the Cook Group and ultimately moved and grew up on Rarotonga, the main island of the Cooks. My father birth date was not confirmed but it would have been somewhere between 1910-1915, no birth records were kept. The reason I believe William to be a direct line is because I'm staring at his photo right now on which someone has written William Snow born at Faite or Faife Nov 1863, eldest sone of Daniel Snow of England. Slight variance in the birth year to that you have but possibly someone had misread a 5 for a 3 or the other way round.

Anyway, my name here and in real life is Vaarua Turner (nee Snow). My father, Daniel, came to New Zealand as a very young man, I think probably in his late teens, married my mother and sadly, never returned to Rarotonga. I am the 4th child of 8, five boys, 3 girls. When my father died, he was cremated and his remains were taken back to Rarotonga and buried with his parents, I have only been to Rarotonga once as a young woman specifically to and see exactly where my fathers remains lie and the place he grew up in. I am now 65.

So.. I know this response is many years later to your post and I really dont know if you even check anything here any longer but just case, it seems we may well share a link in William, the eldest son of Daniel. FYI my eldest brother is named Daniel Moorea Snow, the next was Raiatea Snow, my older sister Aloha and myself Vaarua.. I think my parents ran out of bright ideas for naming the 4 youngest as they have names that dont appear to have any connection to Pacifica in general. Cheers :) Vaarua

If Mr Spitt was an American whaler, and you know the island the child was born on, there might be mention of an American whaling ship that went there at that period.
Find a copy of Where the Whalers Went, by Robert Langdon, which lists all the ports of call of American whalers in the Pacific, plus a few others.
It is available as a book from PAMBU at the Australian National University in Canberra, and in libraries. Once you have some possible ships, you can refer back to their logbooks, generally held in the museums along the eastern coast of northe America, but also available as microfilm from PAMBU.
There are also other books available about American whalers and their Pacific ports of call.

Hi there,
I am Tiare's great grand-daughter granddaughter to her last born son Tairiata Howard Strickland which makes you my aunty and my mums Tiare. Yes aunty ngapoko is a twin and shes the half sister.
I have included our family line onto Heimataura's family line which her 1st husbands children's children have created a geneology. They accepted my request to be added to the family tree which is really good. Go to Heritage.com and search up for Heimataura Tamaeva V and send a request to be added to the family tree, from there you will see our family line. We come from heimataura's second husband which is Tehananaia and I didnt know that until i digged further and further into our family tree.

I would like the rest of the family to go on and add yourselfs to our family so that everyone who goes on will know who you are.

Teuira Pirangi xo

Hi Ngapoko, are you the twin of Tutai as you said below?
My Great grandmother I think is your mother Rauavivi.
Her first marriage to Ioane Tairi Turia they had 3 children. 1)Tiare, 2)Minah, 3) Tereakama. Their second child Minah is my grandmother. One of her sons to her second marriage is William John Akapi who she named after the dad, well William is my dad. So I think My grandmother Minah is your half sister. Is this true?

I have just gotten started with all this geneology and would love to chat to you more about our family history. Look forward to your reply!

Talofa, I am also a descendant of Tehui (not Tahui). My great grandmother's name was Ana Tehui Savea who married Tupuola Nimarota Petelo Meni Tauiliili. Long story short, they settled in Aufaga, had 12 children. All boys names ends as Tauiliili and all girls are listed with different last names. Eldest was Uila Leotina Hicks and is my gradmother, Tutuila Tauiliili, Taataai Tauiliili, Maria Katalina Smith, Pati Tauilili, Tupuola Meni Tauiliili, Telesia Nimo, another Pati Tauiliili, Iusitina Toala, Soonalafo Tauiliili, another Meni Tauilili and the youngest Vienna Taufetee.

All this information can be found on Facebook page - Silupevaelei Tupuola Nimarota Palemanaia as they are preparing for a family re-union to be held in Auckland New Zealand for the children of Ana Tehui Savea and Tauiliili on the last 3 days of December, 2011.

Looking forward to seeing you all in New Zealand to maybe plan the next big project "TEHUI DESCENDANTS FAMILY RE-UNION)in Tutuila where the history began... Very emotional perhaps because we owe our anchestor 'TEHUI" justice by building the biggest headstone ever - especially if this poor man originating from Tahiti for probably in search of a life in Tutuila. God Bless families and see you all in NZ.

Hi I am a distant relative of William Henry. I'm a New Zealander.
I'll send my family a link to this webpage - they may be able to help.

Hi, Dennis

I've just found your 4 years old post, regarding the surname "SPITT".
Elaida SPITT (alias Eraita a Virihoa PITI) is my 3 x great-grand-mother.
In the family, we have always thought that he was an AMERICAN whaler.
I will be interested to have any information you can collect about her father.

Thanks.

Rudy

Marriage Record in Tahiti 1939

I am searching for a marriage record of 2 American citizens who traveled to Tahiti in 1939, where they may have married. Are there civil marriage records available from this timeframe (online or through mail). Or, was it customary at that time, that a "marriage" in Tahiti between foreign citizens may have not been a "legal marriage", perhaps with residency rules?
