I think I may have lots of information on the Brodersens. First of all, Brodersen may have been anglicanized once it got to Tahiti. It may have changed to Brotherson, Brothersen, Brothers.
There were more than one Brodersen families in Tahiti at the time. My great-great grandfather was Samuel Brodersen who shortened his name to Brothers. He was born in 1825 in Denmark, died 1915 in Tahiti. He left Denmark as a young man and eventually became a sea captain trading extensively in the Pacific and South Seas.
We have him recorded as having come from Copenhagen. His father's name is recorded as being Peter Brotherson (probably anglicanized from the original Danish) with 1 son and 6 daughters.
He married Mary Browne of Bora Bora, had 9 children (who survived) - They raised their family on Raiatea - one of their sons was also named Peter. (Whether this is your Peder or not, we will find out!). Peter Brothers was born 1881 died 1943. He had 7 surviving children (among which 2 are twins). One of the children (I'm gathering) died. So, it is conceivable that a photo taken in 1915 could show 8 children. The infant is buried next to my great-grandfather's grave on the Christian property at Faarepa. My great-grandfather (Christian) died in 1911 and the child's grave was put there sometime later....
Peter married a tahitian native (Uraore), and they settled on land at Faarepa (Raiatea), next to my great-grandmother parcel. My great-grandmother Elizabeth Brothers married Leonard Christian (of Pitcairn Island). I was on Raiatea last year, and stayed with one of Peter's grandsons (who is about 70 something).
It may or may not be your Peder. I visited the Luranie Cemetery near Papeete (where Samuel Brothers & family are buried) last year. There was a Peter T. Brotherson grave (I photographed tl) which shows born 1895 died 1977. His wife Tetuaaril Brodersen (1866-1901).
Another possibility, is my great-uncle Chester Christian married a Muriel Brodersen (who is still alive). I do not have her geneology.
Some say that the Brodersen's and Brothers family are cousins. As far as we know, when Samuel left Denmark he came alone - and after he had died, we understand that some family member from Denmark came looking for him. Samuel's mother (?) is said to have had some sort of business in Copenhagen (?) involved in the shipping industry. What we have is pretty sketchy at this point.
I'd like to take the conversation off-line.
