Blanchet - Noel b.1612

Blanchet - Noel b.1612

Looking for information about my direct ancestor Noel Blanchet b.about 1612 at St. Omer de Rosiere (Rosieres-en-Santerre), Amiens, Picardie. He married Medeleine Valet b. 1617 of Montdidier, Amiens in 1635 at St. Omer. Their son, Pierre Blanchet was the founder of the Blanchettes/Blanchets in Quebec. According to anecdotal evidence, records older than that have been lost.

If anyone has any ideas about how to contact the church/archives in Picardie would be much appreciated.

Hello there,
Rosières-en-Santerre is in the departement of Somme (80), whose archives are now available on-line on their website: http://archives.somme.fr/

Specifically, the "État-civil" encompasses the parish registers (before 1792) and civil registry (after 1792) : http://archives.somme.fr/?id=recherche_guidee_etat_civil

A short guide in english (pdf file): http://archives.somme.fr/download.cgi?filename=accounts/mnes...

The oldest parish register available for Rosières is given for 1679, but if you look at the records, the first certificate is dated 1642... it's in poor state and probably incomplete though...

To go further, you'll probably need to use other types of archives such as notarial archives, but I don't know if they still exist and even so, you'd need someone on the premises to search them anyway.

You'll find other researchers studying this family on geneanet.org but they don't have more informations than you. One exception though, John BLANCHETTE (http://gw0.geneanet.org/index.php3?b=dblanchette&lang=en...) who gives Pierre BLANCHET as Noël BLANCHET's father. You might want to ask his sources?

Good luck!
Amandine

Thank you very much Amandine...very thoughtful and complete reply!

I've actually found a biography written in the late 19th century about the Blanchettes/Blanchets, which I think may hold the key to the father of Noel. I am getting someone at my local university to look over my translation to ensure I have the correct interpretation (my French is a bit rusty now). But if I am correct, then I will have the key to older lineage on this family. There is also a lot of information about my more distant Blanchet relatives in the 17th century. So it's a great find.

Will keep you updated....

Hi Melly!

I'm working on this line and hope you can help! Please, what is the name of the book you found on the Blanchet/Blanchette family? I'm looking at Noel and wondering where to turn next!

Thanks so much!

It's of interest also that in the records of Rosieres-en-Santerre for the 17th century the name is spelled Blanquet. There are many records for Blanquets and none for any Blanchets. Also, there are records for children born to Noel Blanquet and Magdeleine Varlet - Noel Blanchet and Madeleine Valet as spelled by the person who was writing up the records in Rosieres-en-Santerre at the time. There is no birth record for Pierre Blanchet or Pierre Blanquet, indicating that he was born before late 1642 when the birth records begin.
