Surnames: Gavelle & Lehaire
I am trying to trace any information concerning my 2 x Gt grandmother Adele Gavelle born c. 1847 in France. Her father was Francois Gavelle and her mother was an unknown Lehaire and I believe they were born in the 1820's in Calais. I would love to be able to put a name to my 3 x Gt Grandmother or any one else on the french side of my family.

Hello

The site Geopatronyme.com shows that your family name Gavelle is most common in the département of Pas-de-Calais, in the cities of Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer, so you are definitely on the right track! Please see this link:

http://www.geopatronyme.com/cgi-bin/carte/nomcarte.cgi?nom=G...

The Archives départementales du Pas-de-Calais has 10-year indexes from 1793 to 1902, censuses to 1906, and military matriculations from 1867-1930 online for free at this site:

http://www.archivespasdecalais.fr/

Note: The indexes, whcih are divided by town, and by marriages, births, and death, by 10-year period are easy to search. They have not put the digitized images of the actual certificates online yet, but it is anticipated that they will be there within nine months.

The best place to collaborate about French genealogy in GeneaNet. It is the largest site of user contributed trees in France, with much, much more. It is a great way to contact distant relatives. All basic functions are free. The site is in French and English (click on the flag):

Hi Adele

Not sure if we have been in touch before, have lost track of some of the people who have shared info in the past. I am also a 2xGt Grandaughter of William & Adele Kenney (their daughter Alice was my Gt Grandmother). Do you have any info about the French side of the family, or any other info you could share.

I will open my tree up for you to have a look at, there might be some details that could help you.

Regards

Su

Hello!

I don't know how much information you've been able to find since the initial post but I looked up the marriage record for Adèle Gavelle Kenny's parents, which I'm attaching. They were married on 23 June 1846 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Calais, Pas-de-Calais.

Her father was François GAVELLE born 15 January 1821 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Calais to Jean François GAVELLE and Marie Madeleine Justine LOISEL.

Her mother was Pauline Pélagie LEHAIRE born 29 June 1823 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Calais to Louis Marie François LEHAIRE and Petronille LOUCHEZ.

I also looked up Adèle's birth record, which I'm attaching. She was born Pauline Pélagie Adèle GAVELLE on 4 June 1847 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Calais.

Cheers,

Soosi

Thank you so much we have not been able to get any of this information, all the trees looking for this information have been stuck.
Would you know of any siblings of Adele, we have very little to go on.
Kind regards Elaine

Hello Elaine!

I've found all of Adèle's siblings. I'm attaching their birth records. They are:

1. Helèna Marie born 2 February 1851 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Calais. Does not appeared to have married.

2. Jean François born 10 September 1853 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Calais. He married Coralie Claeye on 18 September 1880 in Coquelles.

3. Edmond Louis Joseph born 17 June 1857 in Coulogne, Pas-de-Calais. He married Sidonie Adolphine Bremont on 14 August 1875 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Calais.

4. Georges Alexis Alfred born 1 April 1864 in Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais. Did not find a marriage for him.

5. Prosper Henri born 15 September 1866 in Coquelles. He married Marie Josephine Déroses on 6 January 1894 in Sangette, Pas-de-Calais.

I'm also attaching some censuses. The parents are in all of them so I will just list the children. It shows that Adèle left home sometime between 1861 and 1866.

1851 - Saint-Pierre-lès-Calais
Adèle
Hélena

1861 - Coquelles
Adèle
Hélena
François
Edmond

1866 - Coquelles
Hélena
François
Edmond
Georges

1872 - Coquelles
Hélena
François
Edmond
Alfred (Georges)
Prosper

1876 - Sangatte

Prosper

Hope that's some help.

Cheers,

Soosi

Ancestry is having issues with uploading so I'm attaching the censuses separately.
