Karen,

Details please. Others may have the same family names but do not know what villages they came from. They may have full names, exact birth and marriage dates and have been looking for the villages.

I see you have posted a query on the ZUCK message board. You might also post messages on the WAGNER, CONRAD, and PLACK message boards.

Karen, I've been reading older boards and came to yours. Have you gained any new info since you originally posted this message? I am working on Conrad and Shied/Shiedt families from Waldhausen and most likely Leidershied, France.
Specifically I'm looking to find info on Jean Nicholas Conrad b. 1810 and wife, Margaret(Margarette)Schied b. 1812. He was in military for 7 years (we have copy of discharge papers). They had a son Jean Nicholas.
The father went by Nicholas. The family of 3 left for US about 1840, arriving in New Orleans. He has brothers who came to US but family did not know where they went. Margaret had three brothers who lived in Cincinnati, Ohio and two who settled in Pendleton Co. Ky.
I have other info to share, but would like more info from early years in France.
Thanks,Penny C

Funny you should write, I am writing back to a Wagner cousin who was just in Leidershiedt. I have copies of info. from the Leiderschiedt geanelogy boo. Do you have JN Conrad's birth parents
"Liederschiedt was a big surprise. Somehow I expected gently rolling hills
and farm ground. Liederschiedt is reached by winding around some rather
steep hills that is all forested. There are little villages in the low
ground between the hills and villages that are accessed by winding around
the hills through the forest. There is some farm ground at the top of the
hills. Liederschiedt today has little to remind one of what it looked
like while our ancestors lived there. The church and graveyard, the town
hall, some outdoor crosses and here and there you can detect how the
buildings were redone with new stucco, new windows, doors, trim, and some
additions. There was a Hotel Wagner and car dealership owned by a Wagner
in the area. "

It seems like if you did not enter in New Orleans, some of these families ended up in Boston, have you looked into that?

best,
karen Q

I am wondering if possibly some of the families above might not have changed the spelling of their names upon emigrating to the USA? Specifically, I have Susannah ZOOK, b. 1825, married to Joseph WINGARD (WENGER, b. 1819. Their descendants, the ones I know about, lived primarily in IL and IA.

Do you have any more information on them? Certainly names can be mispelled many different ways. One of the families I am working on has their named spelled 9 different ways. Not quite sure what the German/French name would of been for Susanna, maybe someone can help with ideas.

The information came from a source with Rootsweb.com owned by Daniel Wenger at DanielWenger@worldnet.att.net. titled "DLW Database." Jacob Wenger was born 1819 and died 1900; Susannah Zook was born 1825 and died 1883; their daughter, Susannah was born 1846 and died in 1933 in Taylor Co., IA. That place of death was the only location given for events for these three people. That's all I have - not much.
