Lynn,

I am researching my family tree and have similar sounding grandparents to you. I will be interested in sharing any information you may have on Albert Louis Kaufmann (later Forster) who was my Grandfather.

Regards

Lyn

Hi Lyn,

No we did not correspond. Albert Louis was my grandfather as well.... if he is the same one. Mine was born 07 Mar 1888, father was Louis Kauffmann, mother Annie Forster. Any information you may have will be very welcome, if it is the same person. I have a lot more information in my family tree.

It sounds as though we share family!! I have traced the Forsters to c. 1696 - but the Kaufmanns are more difficult!
who was your mother/father?
Lyn

Would love to hear what other info you have on the Kaufmann's. All I have is that Albert L's father was Louis - a hairdresser who came from Metz. His father was Albert who was a butcher - not sure if he came to the UK though - so far haven't been able to trace back on these.
Regards
Lyn

Hi Lynn,

Sorry i have taken so long to get back to you..i missed your reply :((.

Anyway, my details are:

Mother: Diana Angela Forster 8 Aug 30 - 7 Nov 05
Father: John Leslie George Levack 17 Jan 23

My Mother's mother and father were:

Mother: Kathleen Mary H Collins 18 Dec 05 - 13 Jun 83
Father: Albert Louis Kaufmann 7 Mar 1888 - 27 Aug 65????

There is no record of a marriage between them that I have been able to find.

Hope this information is of use to you and you can shed some light on the mystery.

Thanks

Val

Val I am so delighted to hear back from you.
Your mother - Diana - and my father (Albert Edward Louis - known as Ted) were half-brother/sister - ie they shared the same father. Our grandfather was never legally divorced as far as I know from my grandmother.
when I was a child - about 8/9 I met your grandmother - she was known to us as Aunt Kit.
I guess you were named after your Aunt Valerie ? I remember Valerie - but not your mother.
Somewhere in my loft I have some photos of your mother as a baby in the arms of my dad!!
Where are you living now ? Love to hear more news from you

Lyn
(formerly Lindsay Ann Forster !).

Dear Lyn,
I'm glad to hear from you too. My partner Jonathan is the one that has researched our family trees. I understand your Father was my Mothers half-brother and the families knew each other which I didn't know - I'm not sure whether my Mother knew. My Mother Diana and Aunt Valerie (you're right I was named after her!) are sadly no longer alive but my Father will also love to hear about you and of any photos of Diana. He is based in Welwyn Garden City (and aged 86 but very fit for his age), Herts and I am near Newbury and so I wonder if we are near enough to come and meet you one day?
It was certainly not known to me that my Grandmother had not married - that must have been a difficulty in those days. She was a very private sort of person and that might well have been part of it.
Anyway, my phone No. is 01635 281903 if you would like to call - I'm usually rushing about so don't worry if there's no immediate reply, I'll get to 1571 eventually.
with best wishes,

Val
