Donauschwaben migration of 1765-1770 from Alsace/Loraine to Hungary

Donauschwaben migration of 1765-1770 from Alsace/Loraine to Hungary

My husband's relatives were ethnic Catholic Germans living in the Alsace/Loraine region that were in the "Donauschwaben" migration to the Banat area of Hungary (present day Romania). They put only "Lothringen" or Alsace as place or origin. Does anyone know of any church records from this region available on line that I might research? The few that have towns shown are in the general area of of Moselle, France. Principal surnames are Philippi and Chaliot (Schallya) and Koenig.

Thanks

Carol

Bonjour,

Some people who resettled the Banat were coming from Lorraine mainly from the actuel "departements" of "Meurthe et Moselle" and "Moselle".

All villages of Meurthe et Moselle are on line: http://archivesenligne.archives.cg54.fr/arkotheque/consult_f...

Just few of Moselle are available: http://www.archivesnumerisees57.com/mdr/index.html

All my own family comes from this areas. If you need help dont worry, tell me.

Thank you, Pierre. I will see what I can do without speaking French. Some of the German Church records I found are available in both German and English. My own family is French on my father's side. I have been fortunate that most of them came to Canada before coming down the Mississippi to Missouri so there are great records available in English all the way back to France. My husband's family spoke German but I am finding clues going back to Alsace and Lorraine. In one case his mother's line seems to start with a French spelling (Challiot) and then became Schallya and finally Schaljo by the time it came to America. We always thought they were just German but now I believe they were actually French. I suspect something similar may be true of his paternal line. I am finding both Philipp and Philippi as the surname with first names shown as both Jacques and Jacob so don't know if I am looking for the French spellings or the German. It is an interesting search. Thank you again for the help. Carol Filippi

Bonjour,

I remember that in the past time I've had in my hands this booklets : http://www.patrimoines.lorraine.eu/index.php?id=61&tx_sr...

and

https://books.google.fr/books?id=YJLykWEN5XMC&pg=PA107&a...

They are in French but the Lorraine immigration seems to start around 1720 and finished about 1770/75.

If you have the info on your first ancestors I will try to search about them.

Here is the mail adress of "Cercle généalogique de la Moselle" http://www.moselle-genealogie.net/quickcart/?p=p_1&sName.... NOT for FREE but try to ask.

Break a leg ?????
