Area north of Bitche, Moselle, Lorraine

Surnames: Honnert, Oliger, Demerle
I'm researching family from northern Lorraine and would appreciate links to anyone who might have access to records from that area on some of my ancestors. My GGF Frederick Honnert ((Honert/Hounert) b. 24 June, 1799, emigrated to America @ 1850 and was from either Holving or possibly Wissembourg.
A 3XGGF Benoit Oliger , b. 1771, and his wife Anna Barbara Demerle (Tamerle) b. 1774, were from Walschbronn. Benoit's father Pierre was b. in 1736 in Walschbronn but died 1789 in Bousseviller.
I'm just beginning research on my family from this area before the Oliger's 1830 arrival in America and am starting to learn about resources but am also hoping for a family connection. I'm familiar with the history of the area and realize records could be in French, German or Latin.

Hi:

Most departments in France have their archives online and most are free, except one or two. See http://fr.geneawiki.com/index.php/Archives_en_ligne

Bas-Rhin is department 67 and Moselle is 57. Click on “site”. Accept the conditions and you’ll be on your way. If you need help, let me know.

In Moselle, you’ll find the cities Bousseviller, Holving, and Walschbronn and Wissembourg is mentioned in Bas-Rhin. I don’t know what exactly is available, i.e. years, indexes, etc...

Here is another link: http://dave-francis.com/genealogy/CivilRecords/index.html

Have you looked in Familysearch.org? Found OLIGER

Good luck.

Thanks, Lucie - I have checked Family Search but most of the records I need are on microfilm or in books that needs to be ordered and sent to the local LDS center. I appreciate the links and will check them out and, if what's online isn't helpful, I'll order the microfilms.

Wow! I just clicked on the Family Search link you provided. Totally missed that. Thanks again. That will be a huge help. I was trying for regional records having struck out otherwise in the past.

Mary Gorman
