Hi all...
I am trying to link up my subject TAILLEFER to his French/Norman descendants... The only info I have is what my ggrandfather was able to get (where he got the info, I have no idea). The following is what is written in the printed TAYLOR Family Genealogy Book (descendants of Dr. Edward & Sarah MERRITT (MERIT) TAYLOR.)
A Norman Baron and the favourite minstral of William the Conqueror, who accompanied him in his invasion of England, and is spoken of by the Anglo-Norman poet Trace in his description of the Battle of Hastings. In this battle, which resulted in the over-throw of the Saxon and establishing the Norman rule, TAILLEFER was slain by Leofwine the Saxon. As the friend and favourite of the Conqueror he received grants and many favours. These, inherited by his descendants and confirmed by William, gave great influence to the family. He is often mentioned in the Old "Roman de rou," likewise in the famous ballad known by the title.
The next descendant that is known is one Hanger TAYLERFER - "The descendant of Baron TAILLEFER, the Norman, held lands in the tenure of Ospringe, Kent County, in the 39th year of King Henry III's reign, 1256."
If anyone out there has any info on links to this personage... I'd appreciate the in-put...
Many thanks & stay safe...
