Hi Christian!
What I have provided in my original post (and reproduced below, trying to make more clear) is about all I have been able to find from a couple of years of research. The families of the VACELET children - [1] Victoria MEROZ, [2] Marie Herminie CORDIER, and [3] Alphonse VACELET (daughter: Marie) - were all in Bians-les-Usiers, Doubs, to the best of my knowledge. It was information taken from the estate record after the murder of the family of Jean Desire VACELET in Vincennes, Indiana, USA. I have not been able to find any descendants of [6] Eliza (Marie Elisabeth) VACELET (PERIAT-KALANQUIN). I believe she and her two husbands all died without children.
Evidently, your Jules (Francois) VACELET and his wife, Louise MOUGIN came Vincennes, Indiana around 1860? I haven't found any information on their immigration to the United States. I do know that the brother of Louise MOUGIN, who is Francois MOUGIN, also returned to France in 1863-1865. Catherine BECHETER (originally of Ancerville), the wife of Francois MOUGIN, was the godmother of godmother of their niece, Marie Anne VACELET, the daughter of your Jules (Francois) VACELET and Louise MOUGIN on 14 Janvier 1864 in Remilly! However, my MOUGIN/BECHETER family returned to Vincennes, Indiana, in 1865. You can read about why I think they went back to France on a Webpage (in English) that was also published in our local newspaper a few years ago. Voir a:

So if you would like some copies of the documents from Vincennes, Indiana, USA, that I have on your VACELET/MOUGIN family, I would be happy to send them to you. You can send your address to me at: lyrecker@hotmail.com
Can you help me? Do you know of any connections your VACELET family might have to a SALLOT or AUBRY family in Doubs? I am still trying to find one of my immigrant ancestors and there is a small connection between the SALLOT or AUBRY familes and the VACELET family here. But not a connection that has any real meaning.
Good to hear from you!
Best.... Lynn

Would like to correspond with descendants of the VACELET family of Bains-les-Usiers, Levier, Dept. of Doubs, France.
The parents of this family were:
Francois VACELET and his wife, Victoire PERNET.
The children were (order unknown, there were 6 children, daughters are labeled with their married name):
_____________________________________________________________________________________
1] Victoria MEROZ
____________________________________________________________
2] Marie Herminie CORDIER
____________________________________________________________
3] Alphonse VACELET died before 1878 (daughter: Marie)
____________________________________________________________
4] Francois- Jules VACELET died in 1895 at Rémilly
mrd. Louise MOUGIN of Remilly, Moselle, FR, dau. Marie Victoire bapt. 30SEP1861 at St Francis X. Catholic Church (Old Cathedral), Vincennes, IN
This family had moved to Vincennes then disappeared! They may have returned to France as the brother of Louise MOUGIN Francois MOUGIN (my ancestor) also returned to FR about the time of the Civil War (1861). A VACELET brother also returned to France (5] Jean Desire, see below).
Unlike Francois (Jules)VACELET, these two (Francois MOUGIN and 5] Jean Desire VACELET) returned to Vincennes. That was tragic for Jean Desire VACELET (see below).

5] Jean Desire VACELET d. 24 OCT 1878 Vincennes. IN
mrd. Victoire (Victorine?) LAITTIER (LAIQUIER?), d. 24 OCT 1878 Vincennes, IN
Children of Jean Desire VACELET and Victoire LATTIER were:
a] John Ernest - b 27 AUG 1855 Vincennes, IN, died young?
b] Francis Emile - b 4 MAR 1858 Vincennes, IN, d young?
c] Francis X. - b 16 JAN 1863 Vincennes, IN, d 24 OCT 1878 Vincennes, IN
d] John Baptist Victor - b ? SEP 1865 Vincennes, IN, d 24 OCT 1878 Vincennes, IN
e] Mary Victoria - b 24 FEB 1867 Vincennes, IN, d young?
As you can see 4 members of this family died on the same day. They were murdered, supposedly by a man named Pierre PROVOST, who had just emigrated from Alsace (somewhere on the 'upper Rhine'). PROVOST later commited suicide in his jail cell while awaiting trial.

6] Eliza (Marie Elisabeth) VACELET (PERIAT-KALANQUIN)
mrd(#1): Richard PERIAT (wdwr of Catherine VAUCLERE), son of Joseph PERIAT and Margaret TURBAIN, 17 JUN 1856 St Francis X - Vincennes, IN
mrd(#2): Prosper KALANQUIN (COLONQUIN?), 7 MAY 1877 St Francis X - Vincennes, IN

Why did Francois (Jules) VACELET go north to Remilly, Moselle to find his bride, Louise MOUGIN?? Is there any relationship between the VACELET family and any PROVOST family? Pierre PROVOST testified that he did not know the VACELET family in France and that he lived some 50 mile away from their village. The executor of the estate of John Desire VACELET was August IMHOFF (Ct Jura, Suisse), his wife was Marie Adele SALLOT; who I believe is from the Doubs-Franche Comte area. Does anyone know of a SALLOT/VACELET Connection??
