Classification: Immigration

Surnames: Ramseyer, Kaufman, Klopfenstein, Miller
I am descended from Johannes Ramseyer and Barbara Kaufman through their son Joseph (and his wife Barbara Klopfenstein), through Joseph's son Christian (and his wife Katies Miller), through Christian's daughter Mary Gertrude (and her husband Edgar Hawkins), through their daughter Ruby Velma (and her husband Kenneth Whaley), etc. Ruby and Kenneth were my maternal grandparents. Johannes and Barbara (Kaufman) Ramseyer brought their younger children to Ohio, which is where most of the other 4 marriages (previously mentioned) took place. Some of my Ohio-Ramseyer cousins have produced a sizeable volume containing what is known of the descendancy of Johannes and Barbara. The book contains 40,000+ names, but is far from complete. What I would like to know is the family history before, say, 1800. Unfortunately, my exposure to the French language is 45 years in the past, and my youngest daughter's exposure is at least 10 years in the past (and then, perhaps, a little muddled by having majored in Russian at the University of Iowa). However, we believe we got the gist of what you wrote. We would love to exchange more information if you are interested.

How is your search going? I am looking for the Guemann/Gaymon/Gayman family for the Audincourt area.

This family moved to Ohio around 1850 ??

Research on this line has stalled. The one respondent lives in France (i.e., speaks/writes French), and is not related to me.
Quite a few of my Anabaptist ancestors relocated to Ohio, and eventually to many points north and west of there. My great-great-great grandfather took his family from Ohio to Canada around the time the Civil War broke out, because Anabaptists are mostly also pacifists. You might try looking around Waterloo and Kitchener in Ontario.
My gr-gr-gr grandfather never returned to the U.S., but many of his children and grandchildren did.
The 'original couple' in my Anabaptist immigration story came, with 6 of their 10 children, to Ohio in 1835. Two more 'children' came with their families around 1854 and settled in Indiana -- these sisters had married 2 brothers by the surname Schwartz, and those families were Amish. Another daughter came over around 1855 and eventually settled in eastern Iowa.
I have met people whose last name is Guymon, who are members of the LDS Church. Don't know if that would be an Anglicized spelling of the surnames you listed, or whether it's totally unrelated.

Monsieur,

Steve Guemann

As far as I can tell our Gaymann/Guemann/Gaumann family stayed in Ohio for awhile..some moved to California. The cemetery records mention a Audincourt, France along with Hericourt, Fr. We have checked some records while we were in France. Righ now I am lookinf for a Jean )John/Hans) and his son Charles Gaymon/Gaymann. Both were born in France and came to Ohio around 1851.

Bonjour Steve,

Dites moi...
A vous lire.
