DeTenon, Detenon, de Tenon Family

Hi, I am trying to find more information about my French ancestors. My great, great grandfather, Theophile Semblat de Tenon was born on the 2nd of February, 1839 in Bordeaux, Gironde, Aquitaine, France. His parents were Guillaume (William) de Tenon, a Doctor of Medicine and Marie Semblat. On Theophile's marriage certificate his Father's name is written as Guyon, however this is more than likely a phonetic spelling of Guillaume. I would like to find out more information about this line in my family. Kind regards, L.D

greetings as with so many of the sites I have encountered they are in French... I have a cousin in Switzerland who maybe able to help me. So far we had had little success in obtaining any documents regarding the birth of my grandfather Marc Auguste Baud. Louis Teste was the man who my grandmother lived with in Lourmarin France just before she died. My grandmother Rose Chavin left her husband Jules Auguste Baud and her 4 children. Too complicate matters Jules is not the natural father of Marc.Rose gabe birth to Marc before she married Jules. They had 3 more children together. I have been trying for over 3 years to obtain Marc's birth certificate stating who his birth father may be . You would think after 120 years that it would be simple to obtain those records.... not so.thanks again for your reply

Your question is posted to the wrong place.

Lourmarin is a beautiful town in the far south of France, in the département of Vaucluse in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

All of the historical parish registers and état civil are digitized and online with free access directly from the archive's website here:

http://e-archives.vaucluse.fr/pages/enligne.html

You can find your connection there.

Note : When you post messages, it is always helpful to include dates, even if they are approximate.

Bonne quête !

I am looking for any information on the Brohan/Broham clan. I think the spelling of their last name changed over the years and could be spelled Broughan or Brougham.
Our great great grandfather was James Brohan born 6-12-1820 and by the info we have they resided on the Fitzwilliam Estates in Ireland. We believe that Lucy came to Canada, Lanark, in about 1840 with the children.
The records show the baptism of 9 children of James and Lucy but in the 1839 rentals only seven children were show.
James married a Nancy Hughes here in Canada but we have no further information on the family. We have a Nancy Hughes that was married to a James Broughan but she was Church of England and he was Catholic.
Any info you have on this family would be greatly appreciated. You can e-mail me at anmartin1@rogers.com
Thank you.
There is an intersting marriage on ancestry.com under "Paris, France & Vicinity Marriage Banns, 1860-1902" There is a Record for Berthe Hocquart, of London, daughter of Charles HOCQUART and Marie Justine RUNLINGER or RIMLINGER. Banns of marriage to Henry Antoni PICOLI published 30 Dec 1888. I see the marriage took place in London, so the husband must have been from Paris?
The names HOCQUART or Hocquard and Rimlinger are probably fron Lorraine.
Angela

I'll have to keep digging and be patient! It's great to have Louis' parents names as well- I must have a look at this geneanet web site.
It's strange isn't it how I find extra info but end up more puzzled as to why Prudent Eugene isn't in the records!!!
Thanks again
andree

Hello Margaret,

There is no existing census for Paris before 1926, as it was deemed too burdensome to organize for a city this size, and "heads countings" enough for tax and administrative purpose.

You can find Paris vital records on-line for the 1860/1902 period here (tables décennales = 10-years alphabetical indexes): http://canadp-archivesenligne.paris.fr/archives_etat_civil/i...

Remember women are generally listed under their maiden name on French records.

This company also have indexes of Paris and suburbs for death and marriage banns for later time periods (patronyme = surname): http://www.geneaservice.com/recherche/index.php

I couldn't find your Gazanega Evans in the 2nd and 9th arrondissements, nor on geneaservice.com but maybe you should check all arrondissements, just in case.

Regards,
Amandine
Re: COUTARD family of Versailles

Hi Amandine,
Once again you've been a great help. I haven't forgotten that it was you who introduced me to the archives of the 17th arrondissement a couple of years ago. Recently I went back again and thought that references to other Coutards in the 17th born elsewhere might lead me to my family. Apart from Versailles there are a few others and if you have the time and resources, perhaps you could do a little research for me. There are 5 Coutards whose birth records I'd like to find.
1)Louis Jules Eugène (1848) son of Louis
2)Vitaline Eugènie Rose (1855) daughter of Joseph
3)Léonie Marie Blanche (1873) daughter of Joseph Elzéar
4)Blanche Anna (1873) daughter of Louis Jules Eugène (mentioned above)
5)Louis Ernest Aimé (1874)son of Louis Jules (probably above mentioned)

Because of the similarity of names, the first place to look would be ROUEN where Ernest Théodore was born to Louis Coutard in 1855. Two other possibilities are MONTFORD (Sarthe) and MARTIGNé sur Mayenne.

If these archives are on line and you think I'd be able to access them, could you please give me the link and I'll tackle it again. Thanks again for all your help. You're a superstar!!

Dave

Hi - Just found your message. I don't think I can help you much, but as far as I know I am also related to Chopin! My great grandfathers name was Choppin and my grandmother (Miss Choppin) said that the family was related to Frederic Chopin. I was never able to find out any more about this, the hows and the whys etc, but it has continued to fascinate me. When looking at an old rare photograph of Chopin you can see a definate resemblance to my grandmother! I do know that the Chopin name was originally Chapin and the family originated from the French Alps. I would love to know more. Seeing your message got me quite excited as it could be possible that we are related in some way!

Re: Objet : "Maddy" Bourges

Hi Sarah,
Trés magnifique! Merci beaucoup!

1) I have two letters and two photos of Maddy. My father was in Bourges in 1918-1919. I know that Maddy and her family moved to Toulouse around 1920 or 1921. All my father ever said was that Maddy's father was a successful industrialist who owned a factory. Obviously, "1 place de la Barre" is still a very nice building and would have been even nicer and grander a hundred years ago. I have looked at images of it on Google earth, and there are a number of postcards from a hundred years ago that are of the old
buildings around it, but also show this three story home. The Association Valentin Haüy is in the building now. I think if we can find a city directory of Bourges from around 1910-1915 or so, it should show who the family was that was living there then. I think, because the father owned a business, they must have been living there for some time.

Thank you so much for your help. Actually, my wife and I are planning to get to Bourges this summer so I could do some research, but anything we can find out before we get there will make things that much easier. Please feel free to ask me any other questions.

Je ne suis pas au courant en français, mais je peux comprendre presque tout. Vous pouvez m'écrire en français si vous voulez.

J'attends votre prochaine note.
Roger
Hello

Research in the Paris region is somewhat complicated because it is surrounded by several « départements » (similar to shires, counties, or states) which divides these records. This is why the name of a town in important to begin.

Please let me know the name of the city where he died and I can give you instructions to find his burial place. If you do not know, please let me know the name of the town where the family last lived.

Bien amicalement
