My wife has an ancestor named Captain Charles Aubertin, who was a prisoner of war in England, from Napoleon's army. He married in 1815 at Andover, and had two children, then returned to France alone in 1822, and may have remarried. We would be pleased to hear from any descendants or from anyone who may be able to suggest where to find an Aubertin family in France who may be connected. Has anyone any idea where the Aubertin name originated in France ? Pleased to hear from you, we now live in Australia. Please reply by email. Thanks. Derek Hindle.

Dear Derek Hindle
I have an ancestor, Colonel Charles Aubertin, a prisoner of war in England in Napolean's time. He married an English girl and had a son Charles born in 1815 and William 1823. Charles had about 8 children, one daughter Sarah being born in 1841. Sarah is my great, great grandmother.

Are we related to your wife?

My family are connected to this line through my Uncle by marriage and my Mother's sister.
However, William Aubertin (wife Eleanor) is also connected by my Maternal Grandmother's sister marrying into the Aubertins. So my Uncle was also my cousin - a bit complicated. You are welcome to email me directly if this is allowed at anda@minouche'freeserve.co.uk as I live in the Southampton area.
Keep in touch
Ann
