Who were Philip Summer's parents and family? [?maybe SUMMERS, SOMER, SOMERS,...?]
Philip Summer (b. 1814 Alsace, France; d. 1891 Butler Co. PA) married Margaret Ruch (1813 - 1891), another immigrant from Alsace, probably about 1835. Their first child, Sarah, was born in Pennsylvania in 1836; the next three (Freeborn, Caroline, Philip) were born in Indiana (Fort Wayne area); by 1850 they were living in Pennsylvania; the last child, Margaret, was born in Pennsylvania (1853).
I haven't been able to find any evidence that links Philip Summer to any family of that name (or similar spelling) in western Pennsylvania (where he settled with his wife and children), or in Ohio (where other immigrants from Alsace congregated), or in Indiana (where his wife's family settled after periods in PA and OH).
At the supposed time of Philip's marriage to Margaret Ruch (1835), her family was living in Stark County OH. They had moved on to Allen County IN by 1839, according to family recollection, but perhaps earlier (1838, when Freeborn was born).
I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who recognises something in this sketchy biography.
Thanks very much,
