Has anyone heard of the Petre,Petree,Petrie or Petery family from the Alsace region?

My Petre roots are in Louisiana but I have one document showing Alsace as an origin. Do you know where we can find out more information?

I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THE PETRE FAMILY ALSO DIFFERENT SPELLINGS OF THE NAME, BUT I CAN'T FIND THE EXACT LOCATION WHERE THEY CAME FROM. COULD YOU GIVE ME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR PETRE FAMILY. HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN IN LOUISIANA?

Hi Deborah, I'm just beginning my search. My grandma was born in Louisiana in 1900 -- I've just recently received her baptismal papers and found her birth registered in New Orleans. I know that some of the maternal names that connect to my line of Petre are Johnson, Stoltz, Edgar and Volkmann. My cousin told me we have family in Louisiana with both Petre and Petrie spellings. He said it had something to do with the French changing spellings when they has possession of Louisiana and when they were no longer the government for Louisiana some of the family changed back to the Petre and some kept the Petrie.
Do you know anything else? Are you also a Petre? Sincerely, Tracey

Hi Tracey, Sorry for the delay in replying. I am also a Petree, but with a different way of spelling the name as you mentioned from the different spellings you have come across. I am interested in knowing where your Petre originated from in Europe. Since I have had a very difficult time of trying to find the location. I only have the Palatinate, which could be a large area. Where did your grandmother's parents originate from before 1900? Hope to hear from you soon!
Deborah

Jacob Petre married to Elizabeth Faulhaber moved to US in 1846. Is this the Petre line you are looking for?
