Huard & Vannier

Looking for any information birth/baptism, or marriage certificates of Charles Joseph Huard, and his wife Eulalie Vannier. Charles was born 02/12/1856 , and his wife was born 12/12/1856. I believe they originated from Nice, France. They were both Catholic, and immigrated to Canada approx. 1894. They had three children born in France before they imigrated.Charles Joseph Huard, born 16/12/1883. Louis Eme Valerie Huard 03/12/1884 (my great grandfather), and Camille A.P. Huard 13/02/1888. They had two more children after they moved to Canada. Alphonse, and Eugene. I recently found Eugene's baptism record, and it finally had the correct last name of Charles wife Eulalie, took me a few years of waiting on that one. I was originally told by my grandmother that Eulalie's last name was gautier but turns out it's Vannier. If anyone could help locate these two in and around Nice, France. That would be greatly appreciated. I am not 100% certain they lived in Nice, but they could of lived somewhere nearby. -Regards Bradley

Observe-Bradley

Hi Gwyn!

I was thrilled to hear from you. Congratulations on your new grandson!

I can't afford to pay the monthly fee for Ancestry so trimmed down the number of family trees I was keeping for people. I did save the Tortarolo tree into a GEDCOM file so I can put it back up any time. The GEDCOM doesn't save most of the pictures and documents but I saved those to a file as well. So if you ever need it back up for a while I'd be happy to do so.

Sure hope you're hubby is doing better and that all is well with you.

Take care and stay in touch.

Love,

Soosi
xx

Thanks for inviting me to your tree, which I accepted.

The French are usually pretty good about ages and dates which is quite helpful. It's probably a result of their great record keeping. A lot of times, in genealogy, you'll find dates and ages that are all over the place and you have to search over a fairly broad timeline.

One thing to note, in France a woman's records are always in her maiden name, never her married name - even her death records.

Back to the search...

Hi Soosi,
Thank you for your reply!
The only reason I know that Pierre Gregoire and Marie Anne Leveille were from Lyon is beause of what I have found on nantaisroots.com and the anestry page for Joseph Gendron.
It was very easy to find most of the wives families and those branches But the Gregoire's are still a mystery!
I do know that Jean Pierre (Pierr's son was the first to immigrate , I think to Montreal. I would be happy to share my family tree view with you
being that the info is not concrete for Pierre..most of the other family in the 16-1700's were all from Normandie and Champagne, and Paris France. I have found a lot of Pierre's in Brittany as well as some Anne Maries's but no Anne Marie Leveille. I learned from Crista Ccowan of ancestry.com to really do the math with dates to make sure the records make sense. Pierre was born in about 1739 Lyon, Frane so she suggest going back another 25-30 years to get an appx birthdate for Pierre his father. I now am eperimenting with looking at all Pierre or Jean gregoires in Alpes maritimnes reords, upper brittany, Upper berry as well Seaone et Loire records.
I have a Nantais family Facebook page as well if you are intrested.
Truly,
James
If I find anything out , I will let you know! : )

Hello James,

I've started a search for Pierre Gregoire and Marie Anne Leveille but it's slow going. The French records of the 1600/1700's are not easily available and can be quite difficult to read (but they're a far sight better than most other country's records). The other problem is not knowing exactly where they came from. There is no Saint-Jean-de-Leon anywhere in France. The cathedral in Lyon is Saint-Jean-de-Lyon but it's not a parish, arrondissement or department. Do you have any family history that mentions Lyon or other place names in France? Do you have any family stories that mention names, places, professions, etc in France? Every little bit helps.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Cheers,

Soosi

Hi!

I managed to find Victor and Adrienne's marriage record and Adrienne's birth record. If you'd like a copy of them please send me a private message with an email address I can send them to.

So far I haven't found Victor's birth record - seems the 1824 records for Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne aren't where they should be so I'll have to start searching through other records to see if I can find where they ended up. I did find a birth record for his older brother, Pierre Antoine, who was born in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne on 2 October 1822.

Victor was a restaurateur, the son of Claude Besson and Elisabeth Pappillon. Both of his parents were deceased when he married in 1856. He was living at 6 Place de la Prefecture in Lyon. The marriage took place in the 2nd Arrondissement of Lyon.

Adrienne Buissonet was born 31 July 1834 in Lyon to Jean Fleuri Buissonet and Marie Bugnard. When she married Victor she was living with her parents at 80 rue Centrale in Lyon. Her parents attended the wedding.

I found a birth record for one of Victor and Adrienne's children, Alice Marie Josephine Besson, born 14 May 1862 in the 2nd Arrondissement of Lyon. Do you want me to search for other children?

I'll keep you posted on my search.

Cheers,

Soosi

Her father [adopted] was jean joseph felix tortarolo. born 1885 in Italy but was to become French citizen in 1902. We have NO details on him at all.
I am so grateful for your trouble and time.
Her adopted mother was Antionette jean AURELY before she married. but again we have no date of birth or date of marriage. for them But both lived in NICE.

Do you have any given names, time frames and bits of information about the family? Any mention of places besides Nice? Anything will help with the search.

Are they related to the Tortarolo's in any way? I ask because so far I've only been able to find one Vitran in Nice in the 1913-1922 birth table: Magalie Marie Therese Vitran born 30 March 1919. She has the same given names and birthday as Magalie Tortarolo. Magalie Tortarolo's entry in the same birth table says "6 March 1920 (JugetRect)". I'm not sure of the translation for JugetRect but it's some sort of official correction notation. Did the Tortarolo's adopt Magalie? I have requested the details of the Vitran entry from Nice and will let you know what they tell me.

Cheers,

Soosi

Re: TORTAROLO

Salut,

If you know when and where Jean-Joseph Tortarolo was born, you can probably get the other information you are seeking easily.

Since Mr. Tortarolo was born in 1885, there is a 95% likelihood that the dates of all of his marriages and his death date will be recorded on the margin of his original birth certificate, according to French law. Then, you can use this information to order copies of his original marriage and death certificates, if you would like them.

(Many places in France have records from 1885 online already, but digitized records for Alpes-Maritimes end at 1860, so you must order what you want.)

It is very easy to order a birth certificate of someone who is deceased. Just go to the French government website below, fill-out the form, and they will mail a copy to you. There is no charge for this service. (Most of the time, they respond very quickly. My friends tell me that if you live in the UK, you will receive your copy in the mail in less than 7 days, and if you live in Canada or US, it will arrive in about 10 to 14 days.) Here is the link:

ACTES D'ÉTAT CIVIL EN LIGNE :
https://www.acte-etat-civil.fr/DemandeActe/Accueil.do

Note: You will need his exact birthdate and the name of the exact town where he was born, minimum. If you don't know the names of his parents or other information that the form asks for, just enter INCONNU (= unknown). Please do not guess names or dates because if the actual information does not exactly match your request, you will not get anything.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you request a COPIE INTÉGRALE to obtain a xerox copy of the original certificate. (An extract that will not show the margin entries.)

Second note: His birth and death certificates will not state where Mr. Tortarolo was buried, only when and where he died. You must write to the town where he died separately to request information about a burial.

I hope you find this information useful.

Bonne quête !
Hi!

I did some searching and found a few things that might help. I find it much easier to start a family tree - saves having to write everything out and email documents and photos and stuff.

I did a search of Nice but so far haven't found anyone. I'll keep looking and check surrounding areas. Do you have any idea how long Felix and Margaret lived? Have you ever heard of any other places or names mentioned about the family? Any titbit of information could end up being really helpful.

I found Luigia and Victor's marriage licence. It might be worthwhile to order a copy of it since it might have some pertinent information - maybe where she was born and further information on her parents. They were married 22 October 1910 in Manhattan, certificate #23105.

They came over on the same ship that arrived at Ellis Island 6 August 1910. Victor had been living in Paris - since he was a chauffeur he may have worked for some of the same people Luigia worked for and that could be how they met. Luigia was a maid to Countess Mathilde Elizabeth Rutherfurd de Wassanaer Stuyvesant (Google her). She had a house in Paris and a villa in the South of France which is probably where Luigia first began working for her. I'm not sure where the villa was but around that time Cannes was quite the happening place so that's where I'll search next.

Luigia and Victor became naturalized American citizens in 1918. I only found the index record for Victor but it does give his file number. I didn't find anything for Luigia but she may have been included on Victor's application. There's quite a lot of paperwork involved in naturalization and it can contain lots of useful information. So that may be another thing you may want to send off for. Send requests to New York County Clerk, Room 161, 60 Centre St., New York, NY 10007-1402. It may take a while.

Here's a link to what I've done so far. I'll keep you updated on my progress and do please post here any family information, even if it's just vague rumours - every little bit helps in the search.

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/40147833/person/19455305759

Cheers,

Soosi

I am looking for information on my 2nd great grandfather, Felix Perron. Currently all I know about him is that he lived in or near Nice France. I don't know if he was born there, or moved there later in life. He was married to an Italian woman, Margeret Borcetti. They had one daughter that I know of, Luigia Elise Perron born 1882. She moved to New York with her husband Victor H Johns in 1910. So far I have been unable to find anything earlier that that. Any help would be Greatly appreciated.

I like to check every once in a while to see if I can find new information for the posts on this forum. I've found nothing new on yours for years. Today I discovered that, after all this time, the Eulalie Gautier you have is the wrong one. I found her marriage (1877 Nice) and death (1941 Nice) records and births of two children (1878 & 1880 Nice) which confirm that she can't be the one who married Charles Huard. I made a family tree with images of the records so you can see what I mean. Please look at

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/39186159/person/19336623188

On most of the Canadian censuses Eulalie has her birthday as December or February 1856. The "wrong" Eulalie was born in March 1852.

I'm sure this is very disappointing for you! I have started a new search and will keep you posted. Did you get her surname from her death certificate or somewhere else and is it definitely spelled Gautier? Are any other surnames or anywhere else besides Nice ever mentioned on any records you have?

Cheers,

Soosi

I do know that there are apartments at 7 rue Miron in Nice. I can send you a picture of them if you'd like.

I'd be happy to translate the letters for you.
I came across letters that Denise had written to a US GI during the war - specifically in June and August of 1945. Her address at that time was 7 Rue Miroy, Nice, France. The post mark on all three envelopes says Alpes Marme and Nice. The letters are written in French and I am planning to get them translated. There is a rough English translation included with the letters. The recipient had them translated back in 1945 and took notes.
I did locate a family tree with Denise Richier on ancestry.com. That Denise was born in 1922, which would fit my timeline of her birth. She is shown as married with one child. I believe that woman died in 1995. I'm just not sure it's the same woman.

Finally I said to heck with it and sent off an email with some details to a place in Ontario. Right away I got an answer back that I found the right place and got an invite to reunite. Guess someone advised them to be careful, since they are very wealthy thinking I was after something. Havn't heard a word since and now they ignore the emails asking for a photo. So I can't be bothered with them.Just wanted to have closure which I now have.
Cheers my friend

I'm so sorry you found your birth father too late. I live on Vancouver Island and am originally from Vancouver so if there's anything I can do to help please let me know. I'm a Gemini and, yes, I do get bored easily, but as far as genealogy goes I never give up. If I run out of leads I may put something on the back burner for a while but I'll keep coming back and trying to find more.

The same thing happened with my birth father. I've been able to do some genealogy on his family but since he never knew about me I've never wanted to freak out his family by contacting them.

My birth mother was a whole other story. We were reunited in 1983 and had many wonderful years together until her death in 2002. Along with her I got two half-brothers and three half-sisters who are terrific. All the rest of the family, cousins and such, welcomed me into the family as well. It is almost like a fairy-tale dream come true.

I sent letters today to the three best candidates and lets see what happens.
Funny you should say that how you found your birthmother, found my father by sending emails to people with the same last names and found him in Vancouver, BC, but he died 5 years ago. Still following up on what I can find out. I'm a Virgo and don't give up easy

Hi Olavi,

I'm so glad my suggestions are paying off. I'd be tempted to call the list of Guy and G Simeon's I found. You never know, one might be Roger's nephew. I found my birth mother that way.

Good luck and all the best!

Soosi

I tried finding any sort of forum for Antibes or somewhere close by to ask if anyone would be kind enough to check out the cemetery. Unfortunately I couldn't find any.

All I can think of is going back to the writing and/or calling. I found the address and phone for the cemetery. I also found one Simeon (Pascal) in Antibes and a number of Guy's and G's in other parts of France.

Best of luck,

Soosi.

Cemeteries Semboules
LIEU DIT LES Semboules
06600 Antibes
Tel: 04.92.90.51.46

Pascal Simeon
résidence: Les Tilleuls bât 2
1620 avenue Jules Grec
06600
ANTIBES JUAN LES PINS
Tel: 04 93 33 15 46
Tel: 09 64 42 78 12

Guy Siméon
24 rue Jean Jaurès
27540
IVRY LA BATAILLE
Eure
Tel: 02 32 26 30 29

G Simeon
12 rue Génissieu
38000
GRENOBLE
Isere
Tel: 04 76 87 19 49

G Siméon
49 Bis rue Druyes
58500
CLAMECY
Nievre
Tel: 03 86 27 90 71

Guy Simeon
1 rue Peupliers
63122
CEYRAT
Puy de Dome
Tel: 04 73 61 36 42

G Simeon
Haute Saone
Tel :03 84 30 16 01

Guy Simeon
199 chem Hutins
74270
DESINGY
Haute Savoie
Tel: 04 50 60 74 93

Guy Siméon
62 rue Alleray
75015
PARIS
Tel: 01 45 33 02 34

Guy Siméon
1980 route Fau
82370
CORBARIEU
Tarn et Garonne
Tel: 05 63 67 80 22

Dear Ollie,

I'm glad to hear my suggestion helped but I am so very sorry to hear your uncle had passed. He certainly lived to a ripe old age. I hope someone will be kind enough to send you more details.

My very best wishes to you, my friend,

Soosi
