Does anyone know the status of efforts in West Vlaanderen to collect/centralise/scan church and civil records in the region, pertinent to 18th, 19th and early 20th century events? I have been to the VVF in Oostende, to a great little records venue in Handzame and to the municipal center of Roeselare -- during the late 1990s -- and I think that reached the limit of what I could research pertinent to my Descamps ancestors of the 1700s-1800s. It seems that looking now that not much has changed in terms of centralising and digitizing, but I'd love to be told I'm wrong. My roads stopped in Dixmuide where it was indicated to me that records from that town were destroyed in the Great War, but again there may be more answers out there.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
