Raymond Charles Jean Pierre (Raymond) LHOEST was born 18 Jan 1855 in Verviers, Liege. He came to England before 1879 as he married Esther EVANS in Lambeth, London in that year. They had three children:

1. Nora Leonardine Lhoest (1880 – 1940) m. Guy Herwald PARKER
2. Leonard Raymond Charles Lhoest (1881 – bef 1940) m. Lilian Eugenie ESSINGER*
3. Elsie Lhoest (1884 – 1911), d unmarried

About 1895 they emigrated to New South Wales, Australia where Raymond formed a wool company called Lhoest & Co in 1903. He died in 1925. On his death certificate his parents are listed as Jean Joseph Paschal Lhoest, occupation wine merchant, and Marie Thérèse Leonardine Joseph NEUJEAN.

Did Belgium keep records of emigration? My great great grandfather Henri Schortgen and his family emigrated to the USA in about 1860. Would there be any records showing what members of the family came with him and exactly the dates involved? He was from Udange - records, if any, perhaps in Arlon?.

I am searching for information in Fontaine L'Eveque, Hainaut, Belgium concerning Pierre Duthier and his wife, Marie Pasteure. They had a son named Pierre Duthier Sansregret, who married Marguerite Boisselle in Verchers, Quebec, Canada on Jan. 12, 1767. I believe that Pierre Duthier Sansregret was born in Fontaine L'Eveque as well. Unfortunately, I have no further dates to work with. I am looking for anyone who has information about the mother or father of John Francis Louis Vermeesch. He married Isabella Frances Dupont. They had 7 children that i know of. Including Henriette (my line, born in 1859 in Newtown NSW Australia), other children included; Emile, Caroline, Jean, Leopold, Adolphe and Victor (died as an infant).

Henriette is my great great grandmother.

I was told John Vermeesch and his bride Isabella were from France. But I am not sure if the name Vermeesch is actually Belgian. Any help would be great.

There was no land called Belgium until about 1922, so you need a history book written since then and I would try a search for one at Amazon.com or visit your local public library if you'd rather borrow than buy one. In historical times the area was sometimes part of France, the Spanish Netherlands, the Austrian Netherlands, and had other names and many and varied subdivisions as well.

I have found this village in the FHL microfilm under the name
for the local church called "Paroisse d'Attert" in Belgium.
The film shows baptism, marraige, and death.

You should look for AUBANGE.

Baptism: 1618- 1683 & 1729-1795
Marriages: 1729-1795
Burials: 1729-1795

No indexes before 1729.

Ma mère Nelly Legipont est née dans Haine Saint Pierre en 1921 au bd nov. 8 1896 d'Angele Rasockeart et au bd fév. 12 1897 de Lucien Legipont. Elle a épousé mon père que un soldat américain David Jenkins a eu ma soeur Donna en Belgique et est puis venu aux Etats-Unis en 1947. Je n'ai aucune information autre que sa mère et engendre des noms et les dates de naissance pourraient-elles n'importe qui m'aider à découvrir comment je peux trouver où elles sont enterrées ou si elles ont la famille encore vivante ? Ma soeur est née dans Houdeng Goegnies dans ma barre de grand-pères qui en anglais signifié mieux qu'à travers la rue. (elle était à travers d'un cemetary)

Udange (in german: Udingen) is a part of Toernich (in german: Törnich).

Since 1977, Toernich (and Udange) is a part of the commune (municipality, local authority) of ARLON, province Luxembourg, region Wallonia.

The official language in Arlon is french.

My mother Nelly Legipont was born in Haine Saint Pierre in 1921 to Angele Rasockeart bd nov 8 1896 and Lucien Legipont bd feb 12 1897. She married my father an american soldier David Jenkins had my sister Donna in Belgium and then came to the United States in 1947. I have no information other than her mother and fathers names and birthdates could anyone help me find out how I can find where they are buried or if they have family still alive? My sister was born in Houdeng Goegnies in my grandparents bar that in English meant better than across the street. (it was across from a cemetary)

hi, My great grand father was also born in Heinstert. We visited there just a few weeks ago.I live in Germany but I am American. My great grandfather and wife also immigrated to the US in the mid 1800's ending in Allegany, N.Y.

I took a few photos of the church. We also talked to some older residents of the village. They confirmed what I already know, that there are no more of my family living in the village.
Could you tell me who was your contact as I would like to know if any other descendants of my great grandfather's family who did not leave Belgium are still in the area.(his brother). Many thanks.

Krafft/Tock Families around Arlon

I'm looking for any help from someone residing around Arlon, Stockem, Heinsch area. My greatgrandparents came from Stockem (according to immigration papers) in October 1884. Their names were Mathias and Louisa Tock Krafft. I would like to learn the date of their marriage. It could have been as early as 1878 or as late as 1884, and they could have been married in any of the three cities, but I suspect it was either Heinsch or Stockem. Any other names of family members and dates would be greatly apprecaited. Mathias's parents names were Nicholas and Elizabeth Wester Krafft.

I have an ALFERD KROELL, born about 1892, who lived either in the villiage of Stockem, (west of Arlon), or in Arlon. I have been trying to trace him, also.I have a photo of him taken at Becker Photo, rue de Luxemburg 113, in Arlon, in 1903.

They wrote back with some genealogy information on our ancestor and it said he was a "Sattler in Tweekbake".

I do not have any info for your, but am trying to locate Tweelbake, Oldenburg, Germany. I am researching the Heinemanns who came from there in 1900 and 1905. Yeah, it very well could have been spelt wrong. It seems to be someone was just listening to the names and places and not really paying attention to how it was really spelt. I know one of my great aunt's made it, but Freiburg in Germany is incorrect also.

I have back to 1810's on my BOUMAL's and back to abt 1840's on my MACHIELS.
My Henri Boumal married Marie Machiels in 1890, they came to the US in 1894.
His father was Celestin Boumal, mother was Louise Marechal.

We have various family stories about their daughter Marie - who fell in love with a German soldier and ran away to marry him. Some stories say she was a princess, other says she hide Johann in an oven to keep her brothers from killing him and others say they swam across a river to escape her family so they could be married.

Johan Grohs was born in Churpfalz and died in Tweelbake, Oldenburg Germany. We could not find Marie's death record there.

We don't know for sure where Marie was born.

We found her siblings on microfilm of Tables of births in Charleroi.

I presume that your ascendents are from the South of Belgium ?

If yes, you can post your query in English or French on the relevant board. Dutch could also be used, but will probably have less results.

Looking at www.familienaam.be I did see that the LACROSSE surname is mainly concentrated around LIEGE.

I would suggest that you post the Belgian data you know about your relative (birth date, emigration year, ...) on the following sites:

- the LIEGE and the EMIGRATION board of Belgium boards on the Ancestry/Rootsweb message boards.

- the LIEGE list at Yahoo

And, if you do have a GEDCOM file, upload at least a partial GEDCOM with your Lacrosse's, at ROOTSWEB and at GENEANET.

Hi,

I'm not sure but the surname you are looking for could be ENGELS or INGELS, but also ENGHELS and INGHELS.

Anyhow, you could look at
www.familienaam.be if the surname variant did exist around 1997 in Belgium (with a map of the distribution on the municipal level).

25 persons with the surname ANGEL did reside in Belgium around 1997.

Looking for the SERVENE and DeTEMPLE famililes who I believe were from the WALLOONIAN area of Belgium in the mid 1700's and went to the Zuesch area of Germany then with Remacle Joseph Hauzeur to work in the iron forge industry. Hauzeur brought workers with him to run the iron forges in the Zusch area according to documents. The Servene name is mentioned in the 'Index Onomastique' of the Association Royale Office Genealogique et Heraldique de Belgique web site.
DeTemple MAY possibly be the family 'de Templeux' or 'de Temploux'--my guess.
