I am searching for Genot's who lived in the Pittsburgh area in the late 1800's and 1900's. Earliest known relatives: Martin Genot. Children: Andrew, Anne, Peter. Peter is my great-grand father. Interested in the heirs of Andrew and Anne, also, the spouse and parents of Martin.

Your Martin Genot is quite possibly Martin Gniot, born 1 Oct 1861 in Sadki, Wyrzysk, Poznan, Poland. Parents Adalbertus Gniot and Katarzyna Smol. He had siblings who also immigrated to Connelsville, PA: Frank, Constantia (John Bieshada), and step siblings Adalbert and Joseph. Martin and Constantia spelled the name Genot, the rest moved to Chicago and still spell it Gniot. There is a lot of talk about the name being French in origin, but the Gniot family goes back to the early 1700's in the Sadki, Poland area. Take a look at FHL tape #544834 for birth of Martin. Wife's name was Josephine Lukaszewicz, and they were married 9 Oct 1886 in Sadkach, Poland, and Josephine was born 3 Mar 1866 in Odrowaz, Poland according to information from a relative in Poland. Hope this helps!
