Frantzen name

My Great-Great-Grandparents were Peter Frantzen(b. 11/3/1835 d.4/4/1914) and Anna Wilmes(b. 5/16/1844 d. 4/16/1915). I know that the Frantzen name that I hold is from Luxembourg decent, the town I grew up in St. Donatus, IA is all primarly of Luxembourg and some German decent. I am not sure yet if they came over as children or with there parents. I am in the process of looking through the Federal Census of those years to find out. I do know that they were married in Iowa on April 4th, 1864. Hope we can correspond or at least this may help. JOEY

Hello, I'm trying to locate a village name Ritteburg (or something close to it) from the mid to late 1700's. At first we thought this was either in the present day country of Luxembourg or the part of today's Germany that used to be part of Luxembourg, but now I'm wondering if it may have been in the province of Luxembourg in Belgium. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Scott

Hi!
Yes, we are of the same Dominisse's. Your father would have been a grandson of William and Mary(Schram) Dominisse. This William(1865-1938) was a brother to my great-great-grandmother, Elizabeth Dominisse(1859-1934) who married Peter Lippold. William and Elizabeth were both the children of Michael and Mary(Schroeder) Dominisse. I believe this makes us 3rd cousins once removed.
My bet is that they came over from the same general area as the Seewaldt and Even families. My understanding is that a lot of them came over to both Western NY (Java/Gainsville/Wethersfield areas) as well as Ohio.

I visited Denise Even in the town of Fouches, Belgium (Offen is the Lux name) around 2002. A number of the Seewaldts have visited there and Joseph came over from then around the same time.

- Joe Cook
cookjoseph@hotmail.com

Hi!

Thanks for the reply to my inquiry regarding Heinstert.

My grandfather arrived alone in New York in 1908 at the age of 16. He claimed Heinstert as his hometown on his immigration record. I have seen a few pictures of Heinstert online, as well as the aerial view, and it appears to be a beautiful village.

Did you retain contact information from any old timers or locals living there? I would love to correspond with someone from Heinstert who could tell me more about the village and if we still have any relatives living in the area.

Thank you

Thanks for the info, Joe.

A couple days ago an historian, local to Sheldon, found my grandfather's immigration record. He listed Heinstert as his hometown, not very far from Fouches/Offen.

Nearby communities are Arlon, Attert, Thiamount, Nobressart, Shockville.

Hello,

I recently discovered that my grandfather is originally from the town of Heinstert near Arlon in the Luxembourg province of Belgium. (born circa 1892 & arrived in the USA on July 18, 1908 aboard the ship Kroonland)

Unfortunately the LDS only carries parish records for Heinstert covering the years of 1650 - 1797 and 1808 - 1810.

What is the best way to find records for Heinstert after 1810? Did the Parish church in Heinstert close after 1810? Should I be looking in Attert instead or somewhere else nearby?

Thank you,

Michael

I am researching the Arend family in Ohio and seem to have hit a dead end.
I have a Dominic Arend b. 19 Dec 1819, d. 9 Dec 1903 married to a Mary
Wagoner b. 15 Aug 1829, d. 17 Jan 1917. They married about 1850 in Ohio. Both claim to be from Belgium/Lux.
On all census records and any document I can find either Belgium is written
or Luxembourg. I cannot find any immigration records. He immigrated at age 19, so that would have been in 1838 or so. His parents were Lawrence and Mary Arend (who did not immigrate). He had a younger brother, Nicholas, who also came to Ohio. I haven't found any records that would lead me back to a particular town in Belgium/Lux. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you so very much.

I descend also from Theodore Dominicy, and then John Nicolas - but through John Nicolas' second wife Susanna Merci, and their son John (wife Elizabeth George).

I would be interested in any Dominicy/Dominici/Dominisse family history that you are willing to share.

There are so many variations on the name spelling that it is very difficult to pull the entire family history together - even siblings within the same family have different spellings of the last name. My grandmother was a "Domnissey".

Hi, I saw you message and the reply from Baudoin. My great grandfather and family come from Heinstert! We were just there 3 weeks ago. My greatgrandfather immigrated to the US about 1851, but his brother stayed. I am looking for people from the Martiny family who may still be in this area. I live in Germany and it is only a 5 hour drive from where we live.

Do you still have you contact with Baudoin? He may be able to help me. Thanks!

To Baudoin! I just read this message. It is several years old and I hope you see it. My great grandfather was also from Heinstert. He and part of the family immigrated to the USA in the 1850's. One of his brothers did not leave. He lived and is buried in Vlessart. Do you know of any Martiny families in this area?

I visited Heinstert and Vlessart just 3 weeks ago!

Thank you. Marilyn Martiny Kuschel

There are Balon names in my family, married into the Martiny family from Vlessart and Heinstert. I was recently in this area and saw gravestones with this name in the cemetery in Vlessart.

Details: my great uncle Jean Martiny married Marie M. Balon.

You can contact me for more information.

Hi, My great grandfather also was born in Heinstert. He immigrated to the US, living in Allegany, N.Y.
I was in Heinstert a few weeks ago! The church is still being used, but alternating services with other villages. There are too few parishoners and too few priests to have all churches running all the time. We were told this by a local woman. She tried to get the key for the church but the lady who had it was not at home.
Do check the message from Lloyd Mans (Wallonia board)who also has acestors from here. He may be able to give you contact information.
