Re: Minguet

Thank you. So, if I understand correctly--your father's parents are Georges & Mariette (Minguet) Dubois. Mariette's mother is Francoise Minguet, which must be her married name. Do you know the name of Mariette's husband and Mariette's maiden name?

I have found many Minguet family members from Liege; some are from Herve and some are from Stembert. My direct line is from Stembert, and I am not saying some may or may not have originated or lived in Herve. Since I posted this query a few years ago, I have found my link, that is to say, the parents of my Anne Catherine Minguet (she is born married to Andre Joseph Jardon probably Stembert about 1790-1795) are Jean Francois Minguet & Anne Catherine Depouille. Anne Catherine Depouille died June 1776 probably a result of complications from childbirth of daughter Anne Catherine Minguet. So, I am still trying to learn the date of the Minguet-Jardon marriage; I find a child born of these parents 1797, and I am only assuming this may be a first born.

If you seek some Minguet people from either of the above places, I have several in my file and several BMD copies. I hope you can give me the names of your family above. I look forward to hear from you. Thank you

Frank Pafume

Thanks, that probably would be too much work for you though, as I want to know EVERYTHING - who, where, when, why, how, etc. :). I've been doing genealogy full time for a while, but now do not have as much time for it as I want. I will need to go over my records and see where I am and what I need. I don't know much about Ferdinand and his family, but I don't think it's possible to find much anyway. I would love to go there someday and do it on the spot, but that most likely will never happen. It's encouraging though that there is a lot to learn about Jean and early Loiseville.

But I still would like to look into the histories of Louiseville and the regiment; if nothing else, my son's french teacher can translate it for me since she actually grew up in France. Thanks again for the info, I will write again if I have more questions, if it's OK.

Oxana Desjarlais

My pleasure. I live in Montreal which is close to Louiseville and once visiting there, I stopped in a store and purchased a book relating the history of Louiseville. It is in this book that I got a lot of informations on Jean Jacquet de Gerlaise. Furthermore, since I read in French and English, there is more information available on this subject for me, and like I've wrote, records are well conserved in Quebec.

Our ancestor is the first settler of louiseville and the Desjarlais family and descendants lived there continuously from the first day of Louiseville (Formerly "Seigneurie de Manereuil" or "Mannereuil").

Do you read French? If so, I would suggest that you do a research on the web on the "Régiment Carignan-Salières" in the La Fouille company.

Many think that the second name is Jacques because in Quebec "Jean-Jacques" was once a popular first name, but Jacquet was quite common in Liege at this time and normally he should have more a family name before "de Gerlaise" which is the land own by the family.

I hope this helps a bit more!

Jean Jacquet de Gerlaise was born in Liège in 1643, and was baptised in the St-Paul-de-Liege cathedral. He enlisted with the Carignan-Salières regiment and was sent to New-france in 1665 where he settled in Louiseville. He was not born in Louiseville, but he was the first settler of Louiseville (formerly the Manereuil "seigneurie").

Ferdinand Jacquet de Gerlaise stayed in the Liege area all his life...

Bonne journée!
Patrick

The only child I know of is Jean, the only one that was sent in Canada with the Carignan-Salières regiment in 1665.

However, we can presume that Ferdinand de Gerlaise had at least an older son, since he was a "seigneur" or a landowner, and at the time, the oldest son stayed with the land as he was the one that inherited from the father with the charge of taking care of the rest of the family (and become a "Pater familias"). Younger sons was often sent to the army or something of the kind to augment, for the rest of the family, the patrimony of the family or to marry and start a new family of his own (and discharging the previous family).

You can maybe do research on Ferdinand Jacquet (which was is name, "De Gerlaise" was the land that he owned (meaning "from Gerlaise". Since he could own more than one land, he could be seigneur of more than one place (like "Hannetaux").
However, I guess it will be less easier than following tracks in Quebec where they kept good records, since the Liège area was the site of numerous battles afterwards. For myself, I am still looking but found nothing yet. If you find something, let me know, I will appreciate greatly.

I have much more information on Jean Jacquet de Gerlaise, the first one coming in New-france, who was the first settler in Manereuil Seigneurie (today Louiseville, near Trois-Rivières)and the ancestors of all Desjarlais of North America.

I Hope this helps a little bit!

Patrick

I am searching for information about Jean Pierre Joseph Sablon who married Marguerite Josephe Etienne. Their daughter Justine Eleanor born 26 Dec 1822 Liege.
Etienne Famil of Liege During WW2

I am looking for the Etienne family that lived at 32 Rue Fabry in Liege, Belgium in June 1943. Dr. Georges Etienne and Marie-Pauline Robertine (Labhaye or Lahaye) Etienne. They had a daughter named Ivette Etienne that was born in 1921. In June 1943, Ivette was an actress in a Theatre and was in a play called "Marius." My uncle was an allied airman who was shot down over Ophoven, Belgium and went through the Resistance. I am helping him find information on the families that helped him. After my uncle left Liege he was captured in Paris and went to a POW camp. While in the camp, he believes it was 1944, he was told by a Belgium Army POW man that Ivette Etienne had died. I would like to find this family or relatives to thank them for my Uncle. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to find information on my grandmother's family. She said that she was born in Liege, but I don't know if she was actually born in Liege or in the surrounding area. I've contacted her niece and she said that the family was Flemish, but she doesn't know much more about them. My grandmother's parents were Jean Nicolas Cuyx and Melanie Basteyne (or possibly Bastin). My grandmother's name is Pierette Marie. She was born Oct 12, 1918. Her neice gave my the names of her siblings. Here they are: Hubertine, Henri, Emile, Louise, and Desire'. I know that her brother Desire' lived in Jemeppe in 1994, when my grandmother went to visit him. If anyone can help me in anyway, I would greatly appreciate it.

Jennifer Wallis

Cecile was my Grandfather Gustave Minnaert's sister.

It's interesting that your reply was posted on this particular Message Board. (since I had also posted some inquiries on the Wisconsin Message Board, as well as others in Canada and Belgium)

In the past, I was in contact with Cecile's daughter, Oriel who provided me with Family History... which Judith updated pre-Christmas.

I would like to email you directly, if possible, for further exchange of information on our shared MINNAERT
line!

I'm still keenly interested in locating any particulars of the MINNAERT Musical Education/Experiences in Belgium, prior to their move to Canada in 1910-11.

Also, hoping to someday connect with extended family members (presumably still in Belgium)....of Achille M.J. Minnaert or Emma (Dierickx) Minnaert.

Some kind strangers in Belgium and the Netherlands have provided me with Vital Statistics (Names, birth dates, baptismals, marriages, deaths) back to the late 1700's.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Corinne (Minnaert) Postnikoff

My Grandmother was Cecille Minneart-Tench-Smith. My Father was her youngest son Richard. If you are from British Columbia I am guessing that your grandmother was Josie. We have alot of information on our family. Great-Grandfather was a Professor Of Music and he could play every instrument there was. He could also speak and write I believe 9 languages. He was a friend of King Leopold. They were very wealthy but his brother embezzled most of his money and that is why he went to Canada. My Grandmother married Mr.Tench and had 3 children, Josie,William and Oriole. I don't know what happened to her husband ( he may have died) and then she married Richard E. Smith and had Jerome, June, Richard, Lucille and Magdaline. The two little ones died. I think one died at birth and I know one died on Christmas Eve and she was 2 yrs old. My older sister is the genealogy expert in the family and she knows and has records of almost everything. Out of the children of Cecille only one is alive and that is my Uncle Jerry. He lives in Kenosha, Wisconsin same as I. I hope you get this and respond back. We always wondered what happened to our relatives in Canada. The last time I ever saw anyone was in 1972 and it was Aunt Josie's son John.
Sincerely,
Dawn Smith

Hello,

Am looking for any information on the surname Deltour. My grandfather was Désiré Jacques Deltour from Montegnee, Liege, Belgium. His father was Joseph Jean Deltour (probably once had a different spelling). His sisters were Anntoinette and Lea. His mother was Pauline Agnes Moors. His grandfather was Désiré and his grandmother may have been a Deprez (per Joseph's death certificate). They were all from Belgium.

They came to the United States in 1911. Other family members travelled with them, including the surnames Moors and Bawin. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Debby fairnurse@zoominternet.net

two brothers Jacob from Liege?

Two of my ancestors in the region of the former duchy of Nassau, Nicolaus Jacobi and Melchior Jacob were presumably brothers, born maybe around 1650/70. There are hints that they may have come from the region around Liege/Leuk/Lüttich. Does anyone has a hint if a Nicola(u)s or Melchior Jacob(i) were born around that time there?
Thanks a lot.

Famine and plague in Liege in 1858?

My 2 great Grandmother's family is from the liege Belgium area. Before they immigrated her mother and several siblings all died within a 2 month period. The cause is listed as Famine and plague. This was in 1858. I know there was a potato famine as well as crop failures in Rye in the mid 1840's. They were farmers. Do you know of what "plague this could have been? I have heard of an influenza plague but in researching can find no documentation of one. The third Pandemic of Bubonic plague started in China in 1850's but I am not sure that it reached Belgium. Any ideas?
