Surnames: Martheleur, Marteleur, Defooz, Defaux, Moray, Delferriere
I am searching for Martheleur relations in Charleroi and for Defooz [Defaux] in Ville De Verviers. My
mother's father was Laurent Defooz who owned Fabrique D'Etoffes - Nouveautes in Verviers. Her
mother's maiden name was Marie Catherine Moray. My mother's name was Juliette and her
brother's name was Oscar. On the Martheleur side my father, Elie Louis born in 1880, was the son of
Elie Louis Martheleur and Pauline Delferriere. They lived in Marcinelle near Charleroi.
Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated.

Hello-
My name is Astrid Martheleur. my father is a Martheleur- his name is Jean Andre. He has had brother named Omer who passed away a few years ago. Their father was Maurice Martheleur and their mother was Francine Scarmur- although I'm not 100% certain that this was her maiden name. I also believe that my grand father or great grand father's name was Omer as well.
My father was born in Charleroi in 1941 and grew up on rue du Grand Central .Though he is still alive, he is not at all interested in learning about our lineage. I, on the other hand, know so little about my father's side of the family that I am desperate to find anything out. If there is anything at all you could let me know, I would really appreciate it. I recently moved to London and you can contact me via e-mail anytime.
Thank you, Astrid

Hello! Well, the given names you provided for the Martheleur family do not sound familiar to me. However, we must definitely be related as my father grew up in Charleroi!
His name is Jean Andre Martheleur.
His brother/ my uncle was Omer.
Their father/ my grandfather was Maurice.
Their mother/ my grandmother was Francine- and her maiden name was Scarmur.
I don't know that much about my paternal family. Although my father is still alive, he doesn't really talk much about his family. He was never really close to his parents and brother, and left Belgium when he was 25 years old.
He does still have a niece and nephew in Belgium: Kathy
and her brother Omer Martheleur (who are his brother Omer's children).
Please contact me if you have any information!
Thank you,
Astrid

Hi,
Sorry for my english.Do you speak french?
I'm living in Charleroi (Belgium) and my friend Michel Glume seeking over Martheleur Jean André.
My friend was born in april 1941 and Jean Andre Martheleur in july or augustus(?)
The little band of rue du Grand Central was Jean Martheleur,Omer Martheleur,André Glume,Michel Glume...
Your grand mother have a shop with primeurs, vegetables, chicken named "MA CAMPAGNE".
In front of the shop, there is a place and your father plays basket ball with the neighbours.
What's happened to your father?
Here in Charleroi (Belgium) more people talk always about him.
Regards
Pascale

Due to a technical problem some of the postings of 2001 have been listed as send by the list administrator (me).

I can't say who did originally post the root message of this posting.

I do speak both national languages (& English) and reside in Evere (Brussels).
