My uncle was Avent Hainaut. He immigrated with his family about 1914 to the US. I think they came from Lens, France.
His father was Voltaire and his mother Marie.

I have paged through 100 pages of Hainaut on World Connect and they seem to be mostly duplicates from 0900-1200. Can anyone connect with Hainauts from a later date?

I am looking for any connection to the relatives of Rosa FASSIEAUX who lived at the following address in November 1918:
Rue des trois Hurees.
No. 1/11 106 Jemappes Belgique
Hainault ( ez Mons)

The address is from a letter written in January 1919 by Rosa Fassieaux to the family of a Canadian soldier who was killed near Jemappes on Nov. 10, 1918.
The soldier stayed with the Fassieaux family on Nov. 9 and they showed him great kindness and hospitality. Most important, they provided a coffin and flowers for his funeral and tended his grave in the Jemappes cemetery near their house.
The soldier's relatives would like to know if there are any descendants of that family. His nephew is still alive and is interested in what happened to his uncle that day.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Scott Howarth
Toronto, Canada
Did you know there was a John Baptist Vansnick who died at Joggins in 1951. He was born at Charleroi Aug 10, 1881 to Pierre VanSnick and Marie Clotilde (Heysman)? He was married to Rosalie (Verrcken)? and they had a son Camile (Comille) Vansnick born in Inverness in 1907.They had another son George also born in Inverness. The family seemed to leave inverness for Joggins. I'm very interested in the Belgians that came to Inverness area in the early 1900s.

Moret, Marouez query

Jochim Joseph Marouez married Elisa Gosselies in or before 1870 in Hainaut. They had a daughter, Eugenie Aimee Marouez, born Jan 26, 1870 at Montigny-Sur-Sambre, Hainaut, Belgium. In 1894 Eugenie married Léopold Joseph Moret at Gilly, Hainaut.
Leopold, Eugenie and family emigrated to Canada sometime between 1907 and 1909. They were naturalized as British subjects, (Canadian citizens) on August 29 1935. Leopold was a miner. In a description of particulars on his naturalization paper, Leopold is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, ruddy complexion, brown eyes and brown hair (turning grey). Distinguishing marks included a crippled right hand. His obituary suggests he was survived by two sisters in Belgium, unfortunately their names were unknown.
Eugenie is described in the naturalization document as being 5 feet, 2 1/2 inches tall, brunette complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair (turning grey). No distinguishing marks were noted.
If these people are familiar to anyone please contact me at aodhqu@gmail.com
HI Genny, I am so excited too. Never really thought anyone would read my message on the message board. You must be Ruth Ann's daughter. Nice to meet you!!!! I don't use Family Tree Maker. I do have the program but have not put it iinto my computer. Email info would be wonderful. I have been working on the Pouillon-Jourdain genealogy for several years on and off. Mostly work on my Mom's side of the family. My sisters and I are planning a two week trip to Belgium next summer and thought I had better get on the ball and start Pouillon genealogy again. I have Grandma and Grandpa Pouillons citizenship papers and a copy of their marriage license. Also have Grandpa's birth certificate. Have some pictures. My email address is Janmetzger134@hotmail.com. Do you have info on Grandpa's brother, Frank, from West Virginia? I have some info. Anything I have I would be so happy to send you. I can be slow at getting info around as I care for my Mom everyother week and she lives 100 miles from me. I also have info that I don't have typed up yet. Again, this is so wonderful to know someone else is interested in our family roots. Talk to you soon. Janet

Looking for Information About My Great Grandparents

My great grandmother, Elizabeth Orlea, was born in Belgium 01 FEB 1858. I believe she was born in Mons or Frameries, Hainaut. She married Louis Duez or Dewey in Belgium; however, I do not know the date or place. They had two daughters, Rosa Catherine, 11 NOV 1876, and Louise, 01 Mar 1880, but I do not know where in Belgium they were born. The family left Antwerp in NOV 1882 on the SS Waesland and arrived in New York on 13 NOV 1882. On the ship with them was their friend, Alfred Joseph Jamotton, also from Belgium. The two men were coalminers. All five people settled in Pocahontas, Virginia, where in 1884, Louis Duez was killed in a mine explosion. In 1885, Elizabeth Orlea Duez married Alfred Joseph Jamotton, and I am descended from this marriage. Where should I try to find birth, marriage, and emmigration records for these people in Belgium?

Christian, I have just come across your message of 2004 stating that your family came from Gilly in 1901. My family came from there in 1902, but have left no information after their deaths.
Could you tell me why your family left? Mine came to PA to work in the coal mines. Was it because the coal mines in Belgium were playing out? Was it cultural? Was it economics?

I am going to Belgium in 2009, be the good Lord willing, and am doing some in depth research in the meantime.

Your answers will be most helpful, if you would care to share.
Sister Nancy

I don't know how much help I can be; I have just started trying to trace my grandfather's family. He was born Edouard Adrian Peschard in Flere [Normandy], France, in 1876. I know that he was one of 10 children and his father died when my grandfather was 10. All family records were destroyed in 1944 during the Normandy invasion. I don't know if there is any connection to the Peschard family in Belgium, but it does not seem to be that common a name.

Deborah, it is interesting that the DeRuine name is included in your family name. Do you have any knowledge of where it came from? Hainaut, excuse my geography, is that France? I had believed at one time there was a small town called DeRuine in France based on a tidbit of information I had come across. If you live in Hainaut, can you check maps and such to see if there was a small town by such a name in the 1600s? Any help would be great. As for Demarest, I will check the family tree that I have to see if there are any similar names there but it will be awhile before I can get b ack to you on it. Thanks for responding to my post.
Carolyne

Sgard, Girard and Peschard/Pechard

I am trying to work on my family tree and I am looking for connections to the following:
1. Benjamin Simon Alexis Girard - Belgium Father of Gilbert & Marie Elise.
2. Admandine Ernestine Peschard or Pechard - Belgium - Mother of Gilbert & Marie Elise.
3. Gilbert Girard - Charleroi Belguim - Brother of Marie Elise Girard.
The family migrated to NS sometime early 1900's but returned to Belgium a few years later. They had something to do with wines...farm - grapes or making wine. Elise Marie stayed in NS with her own family.

Any information would be so appreciated...I seem to have hit a dead end. Lin
