I am looking for information on my Belgium roots.

I am looking for information on my Belgium roots.

Surnames: Etienne
Family stories say the name Jean Baptiste Etienne extended for five generations in my family. My great-grandfather was Jean Baptiste Etienne born 1858 in Liege, was living in Marchienne-au-Pont, Hainaut, Belgium in 1885 and immigrated US in 1888. I am looking for his parents and grandparents. I would love to connect with any family still living in the area. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Renee,

Are you sure that your Jean Baptiste Etienne was born in the town Liége 1858 ? In the birth index of Liége ( years 1851 - 1860 ) only one can be found, Jean baptiste ( Antoine Louis ) Etienne, but he was born in 1851. There are no other with the name of Jean Baptiste Etienne born in the town Liége. It is possible that Jean Baptiste Etienne is born in the Province of Liége ( of which the town Liége is a part of it ) but there are about 84 towns in this Province so a search for his birtplace will take a lot of time.....
Did Jean Baptiste married in Belgium ? Any clue of some siblings of Jean Baptiste ?

Thank you for replying Marc. Surprisingly, I just discovered some old papers at my mother's this afternoon. The handwritten papers list my great-grandfather as John Baptiste Etienne born March 8, 1858 Belgium. He married Rosa Philisene Naveau of Braineleconte, on April 12, 1879 at Lanse Chapelle, Lambert, Belgium. His parents' names were Jean Baptiste Etienne and Ann Marie Hermand. I don't know where they were living or the names of any of their siblings. Do you know of any online resources that would be helpful for researching my Etienne family tree? Thank you again for the information.
Renee

Hi Renee,

With this new information we can do something. I had a quick look and found the Etienne familyline back to around 1677. It will take me some days to find some records for you so if you could provide me of an e-mail address ( eventually send it to me trough a private message ) so I can mail you these records in a few days.
Attached an image of the folders I created for you ( you can't open them ).
