Ross from Manderfeld, Belgium
I am looking for information on a Ross family that may have come from Manderfeld. There were three siblings: Henry born about 1834, Christina (my great-grandmother), born about 1836, and Anthony, born about 1844. We don't know when they came to the US, but we know that Christina was married to Nicholas Reiter in 1854 in Ramsey, MN. They settled on a farm near Vermillion, Dakota County, MN. In the 1860 census records, Henry and Anthony are listed as living with Christina and Nicholas along with a Peter Held who we believe was a cousin. We have no other information on Henry. Anthony married Frederika Alt in Hastings, MN in 1870 and they had a son, Henry Peter, in 1871. Sometime after that they moved to Seattle, WA. Any information will be appreciated.

My Grandmother's family came from Manderfeld . Jon Henry Ross, my greatgrandfather was born in 1840 in Manderfeld. He died in 1920 in Redwood County , Mn. His father's name was Hubert Ross. May have been cousins. Hubert emigrated to Mn. about 1853 and settled in brown County, Mn. Must be a connection

Hi Steve Schroeder!! Been a long time!! As you may remember my maternal Grandmother was Anna Ross sister of John Henry Ross from Manderfeld. I have new information going back into the 1600's with the Rosses coming from Bleialf, Germany--not far from manderfeld.

Re: Ross from Manderfeld, Belgium
You should look at the ancestry.com family trees. Ric Schenk has posted a lot of family tree stuff that includes Christina Ross's ancestors. I am a direct descendant (Margaret Reiter married to Joseph Arth were my great grand parents). I have not yet made contact with the Schwenks, but they have the Ross's arriving in Minnesota in 1852. I had heard from relatives that Christina Ross's parents had died on the way to Minnesota. I had assumed it was when crossing the ocean, but it looks like it was right before they got to Minnesota based on this information.

Re: Ross from Manderfeld, Belgium
Janet: Your great grandmother and my grandmother were sisters. My grandmother was the youngest Reiter daughter Adelheide. Yes, we had always been told that the Ross parents died on the way over. It turns out that they died when they arrived in Hudson. I am familiar with the information Ric posted, in fact, I contributed some of it. If you would like to share some of the information I have please email me.

Re: Ross from Manderfeld, Belgium
My father, Joseph Ross, was born in Wanda, Minnesota in 1917 and talked of our family coming from Manderfeld. His father was Peter Ross, with a Hubert and Henry coming before that. He wrote out a geneology that I have somewhere.
