I have compiled a genealogy of the GUNS family from Brabant, Belgium, several branches of which settled in the vicinity of Green Bay, Wisconsin. From that compilation I am issuing a publication covering the first 11 generations, about 1600 to about 1920. The work is 470 pages and in addition to the genealogical work contains a section on the history of Brabant, including local histories for several towns in the vicinity of Huldenberg, Belgium (turn of the century photos and population graphs are provided). The towns include: Huldenberg, Neerijse, Loonbeek, Sint-Agatha-Rode, Ottenburg, Oud-Heverlee and Sint-Joris-Weert. Maps of the towns are also provided.

The genealogy is written in MS Word, and is known to work with both Office 97 and Office XP. It should also work with the various versions in between those products.

In addition to the surname GUNS, the following surnames have significant presence, being present in at least 3 generations:

ARKENS, BAUWENS, DEBECKER, DEKELVER, DEKEYSER, DEMOULIN, DEVOLDER, DEWIT, D'HONDT, GILLEKENS, GOOSSENS, KRIEGELS, LAHAYE, LAUWENS, LEONARS (LEONARD), MARCHAL, MERTENS, PHILIPS, RENDERS, STERCKX, TASTENHOYE, VANDENDAEL, VANDENHEUVEL, VANDENLANGENBERG, VANDENPLAS, VANDERLINDEN, VANDERPERREN, VANDERZYPHEN, VAN PAY, VANPEE.

Other surnames having at least a 2 generations listing include;

ARNALSTEEN, BEERSAERTS, BLOOMER, BOMBAERTS, COOPMANS, GIJNENS, HERVENS, JORGE, MOMMAERTS, NEYS (NYS), RONSMANS, VANDERVEKEN, VANDEUREN, VANESCH, VERHEYDEN, VREBOSCH.

DeKeyser Family - Belgium

Re: family genealogy now availible

Hi, I saw your post regarding the Dekeyser family (among others) and would like to know if you have any information on a Marie Dekeyser b. cir. 1890 in either Belgium or France (I'm not exactly sure which). I know she married Charles Dejonghe and had two children, Theodore and Opportune. Opportune was born 1914 and Theodore sometime before that.

Opportune now lives in the U.S. and immigrated in 1935, married Charles Deleu and lived in Michigan.

Opportune is my step-grandmother and do not have much information about her family prior to her birth. Anything you have would be appreciated or, even if you can point me to a site to search, as I am not having very much luck finding family info. Thanks.

Hello Teena,

Sorry about the delay, but I moved in December, and just this week got internet services re-established.

At present I don't think I can help you with your search, as most of the information I have on the DeKeysers from Belgium only goes up to about 1910 on microfilm. If Marie was born about 1890, she may not have married by 1910, and would therefore not be in the records I have access to.

The other problem is that you are not sure where she came from. I might be able to help somewhat, as I have access to several microfilms from the Huldenberg area of Belgium. But first I would need to know where Marie and her family originally settled in the US. Also, have you checked the US Census reports. They should tell you when she arrived in the US and where she came from, at least the country. I have had particular succes with the 1930 census.

Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Tom

Hi, I saw you're post and saw it included Debecker in the families. I descend from Philomene DeBecker 1837-1916, and I'm hoping she is in you're collection. If so I would love a copy of anything you would like to share. Thank you, Craig S. Griffin

At present I am on vacation and I do not have access to the genealogy. However, I will check the records and get back to you near the end of July. By the way, which town in Belgium have you traced Philomene DeBecker back to?

Craig,

I am sorry to tell you that I do not have any information on the Philomene Debecker you enquired about. The town of Pieterbais is located some distance from Huldenberg, about 20 km, and I have not expanded my search of the civil records out that far yet.

While there could be some family relation, I have no information for you at this time.

Best regards,

Tom

Hello, I recently read your post on the 479 page document of the GUNS family. I recently learned that we have a surname Vanderlinden in the family. I found this in a 1910 Census from Puerto Rico for a Juana Vanderlinden Terichen (not sure of the first letter of the maternal surname. Maybe its a P). But the census shows that this individual was born in Belgium about 1864. I was told maybe Brussels. She might have met her husband there when he was studying medicine. Strange that being born in Belgium she would have a spanish name. (I think it probably was a Belgium variation that was changed by her maybe to make it easier for people to say her name in Puerto Rico. He might have been on the medical board of Universitaire Libre de Bruxelles, Faculte de Medecine et de Pharmacie, Bruxelles, in 1884. Anyway might you have any mention of her. Her husband was named Ramon De Torres Borges.

Thank you for your message about the family GUNS.

I am researching the Guns who are of my family tree.
Le last ancestor I have is:
Joanna Guns born 8 Nov 1780 at a Hulpe,Brabant,Belgium, she died on 15 Feb 1842 in Overijse, Brabant. She married Pierre
(Peter) Van Obbergen in Overijse on 20 Nov 1805.

She is the daugther of Joannes Baptista Guns and Maria Van Eycke.
If you can, would you please give more informations about

I will greatly appreciate your help. Thank you for your time.
