My ggm, Philomena, was born in Belgium, place unknown, in January 1842. She married August Baele and had at least 3 children, my gm Mary, Victorine and Charles Baele. August must have died and she married Pierre DePreker and had another family. Her date & place of death are unknown. I would appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks & God Bless.

The information I have was sent to my inlaws, Phillip & Marian Hutsebaut, by Evelyn DePreker Pryor who was researching her family genealogy. Evelyn is from Torrance, CA jpryor1@ix.netcom.com 310-316-6684

Philomena (Minny) DePreker married Pierre DePreker around 1870. There is no mention of a first husband as you mentioned in your posting. Philomena was born in January 1842 in Belgium and died around 1900 in Paterson, NJ.

They had six children:

Charles b.May 1872 in Alsaac-Lorraine, France
Victorine b. 1874 in Alsaac-Lorraine d. New Haven, CT.
Married name was Warren
Mary b. 1876 d. Paterson,Passiac, NJ
John Francis b. March 3, 1879 in Alsaac-Lorraine d. Feb 3, 1946 Paterson, Passaic, NJ
spouses - Ernestine (Tieney) Hutsebaut, Isabel Dale and Carolyn Witt
Peter b. Sept 1, 1882 in Alsaac-Lorraine
August A. b. Aug 1885 in Alsaac-Lorraine married in 1900 to Julia Murphy.

I hope this has helped.

Do you have any information about the Hutsebaut name?

I would love to know more about your Hutsebaut branch of the family. I have done extensive research on the Vanderspiegel family which is Ernestine "Tieney" Hutsebaut's mother's family. I have had no luck finding a manifest for the Hutsebauts arrival in this country. Have you found a manifest? According to his citizenship papers Desire Hutsebaut arrived in NY on Aug 24, 1887, but there seems to be no record of it. (Victorine Vanderspiegel Hutsebaut's brothers and sisters all came between 1887 & 1889.) I've tried many different spellings (often mis-spelled Hutsebant). Still no luck.

I have a photo of the Hutsebaut grave in Paterson if you don't have it.

From which part of the Hutsebaut family are you connected. I don't have a Sue on any of my charts. I'd love to fill in more of my Hutsebaut families.

I look forward to hearing from you.

My email is linsfam (at) myfairpoint (dot) net.

I don't know if this is in any way connected to your family or not. Many from Belgium moved to France for jobs. John Francis DePreker married Ernestine Hutsebaut who was from Montataire, France, so there could be a connection. This is one entry from the 1886 census from Montataire, France.

Street: Vogent or Nogent Montataire, France
Pierre DePreker 48
Philomine Vandenberghe 44
Marie DePreker 18 or 19
Adorine? DePrekere * 17
Louis DePreker 14
Jean DePreker 7
Henri? DePreker 4

(*The first letter could be a V or O but no vowel before d)

Hope this is of some use

Today I found the birth record for John Francis DePreker which will confirm parents for you and also pin down the city where he was born.

You can find this record in French for yourself at the Oise Archives website by clicking on Montataire and 1879 births, then looking for entry 69 on page 210. http://www.oise.fr/culture-et-vie-locale/les-archives-depart... This is a great website with births, marriages, & deaths plus censuses for all the towns in the Oise area.

It shows:
Jean Francois DePreker was born to Pierre Jean DePreker & Philomine Vandenberge in Montataire, France on March 3, 1879. I cannot clearly read the names of the three witnesses.

I hope this helps. I was not able to find the birth of August DePreker on August 1, 1885 or January 8, 1885 in that city. His birth must have been in another town.

In my previous message the name that was impossible to make out was most likely Victorine.

I believe this is the 1895 NJ State Census for the DePreker family.

1895 NJ State Census
Paterson, Passaic Co, NJ Ward 8
Philomena Dpraiker
John Dpraiker
Harry Dpraiker
G.....? Dpraiker*
Charles Baele

DePreker is spelled as above, Dpraiker.

Other details from the census are just in general categories. There are no specific ages.

* This name definitely starts with a G and looks like Gierst. Perhaps it's French or Belgian for August.
