I need some help researching my Belgian ancestors. My great grandfather, Vetalis Van Puymbroeck came to the US in 1887 His parents are Carolus Ludivicous Van Puymbroeck and Freelina Melina Meersman. Vetalis was born January 26, 1870 in Westmunster Belgium. He went back to Belgium in 1906 and married Dorthea Irena DeRidder, daughter of Karel Lodewyk DeRidder and Rosalia Francisca De Clereq. She was born in Vrasene Belgium in 1885. Dorthea died after having there third child and Vetalis remarried Marguerite DeMaere also from Belgium. Dorthea had a sister who lived in Norway, Belgium named Elizabeth Franchisca who was married to Frank C. Vaerewyck. I believe her brother Alphonse DeRidder also lived in Norway Michgan.

Vetalis also had a sister Maria Hortense Van Puymbroeck who came to Baker also. She was married to Peter DeBaker. I also know that Ivo Spriet and Adolph Van Wynsbright (Wynsburg) were witnesses at Vetalis's second wedding in Baker City Oregon. I don't know if they fit into the puzzle, but they are both from Belgium.

If anyone has any information on any of these people please let me know. Or if you know of any ways of getting information from Belgium please let me know.

Thank you,

Kari
My Great Grandfather, Joseph Lambert was born in Brussels, Belgium. He married my Great Grandmother Victorine Dewaele. They had my Grandmother, Alice Lambert. My Great Grandfather was killed in 1916 in WWI. I believe his parents were Camille Lambert and his wife's name was Mathilda. I am working on our family history and am at a bit of a road block with their family. During the war my Grandmother, Alice moved to Middelkerke ( Flanders ) to live with HER Grandparents, while her mother stayed in Brussels to work. Any information on their family would be greatly appreciated. It's hard as they all spoke different dialects of the language. My Grandmother came to America when she was 20 years old and her mother remarried to Cyril Feryn. My Grandfather was also from Belgium, but he was from Kortermark ( Kortemark ). He came over to America when he was very young. His name was Michel Cool, Parents were Joseph and Victorine Cool. They all settled in Lyon County, MN ( Marshall is the town ).

Thank you in advance for ANY information someone may have!
Cathy
otlakerat@tds.net

I'm looking for any information on any DeCosters/Dekosters who came to Michigan from Watervliet, Belgium. My great-grandfather was born in 1884 and his brother Clement Dekoster was born in 1902, so I'm assuming they have a lot of siblings. They had a sister I know about named Elsie, who married a DePauw. Thanks.

I am searching for ANY info on VanderHus. In the 1400s one family (orig. from Flanders but settling in Bohemia) changed their surname to Wander & Wanderer because of the controversy surrounding Jan Hus. I'm curious as to whether the name VanderHus exists today anywhere in the world. You can contact me directly at judypetersen@hotmail.com. Thanks. Judy Wanderer Petersen

De Bruyne and Debruiker Family

I am looking for information about Jan Baptiste De Bruyne and Marie Emma Debruiker who came to Canada in 1905.
They had twelve kids.
10 of the 12 children of Jan and
Emma DeBruyne (it is in Flemish of course which makes it a little more
difficult) from Lanscouter c/o Oosterzele. Results indicate the following
birthdates:
Leonardus Prosper October 19,1876
Joannes Romanus (Roman) April 6, 1878
Maria Agatha (Mary) December 3, 1879
Alouisius (Louis) Joseph March 23, 1882
Joannes Camiel Jan. 27, 1889
Anna Irena (Irene, Renee) January 19, 1886
Cyriel (can not figure out second name) November 27, 1887
Emiel Josef (Joe) March 10, 1891
Augusta Romania May 31 1895
Oscar Arthur March 23, 1893

No records were found of Agnes and Odile so maybe they were not born in
Landscouter.I was unable to get the information I had hoped, i.e how long
the family lived in Landskouter prior to moving to Destelbergen or the
birthplace of Emma. I have zipped a letter off to Munte c/o Merelbeke so
will see if we can track down Jan DeBruyne's birth certificate and the name
of his parents.
If you have any information about this family I would appreciate hearing from you. I am looking for the ship they came over on and relatives in Belgium.
thank you Clarence -Son of Kamiel.

Minnaerts from Kaprijke

I am going to Belgium in Sept. to visit the area where the Minnaert side of my family lived. I know little about Belgian records, except the info. from John Buyse about the Archives in Beveren-Waas. My Minnaerts came from Kaprijke, St. John-In-Ermo, Sint Laureins and that general area. Will the cemeteries in the area still have headstones going back to the 1700's or are headstones retired after a certain number of years like in the larger cities? Also, if I find the address of a specific home or farm where they lived, do you think residents would give me more information? Would it be a good idea to contact the historical society in the area? Let me know your experiences in visiting Belgium and what I can hope for. I am listing my Minnaert lineage.

Heritage:

Richard (Dick) Minnaert: 11/2/1897 Atkinson, IL to 1/12/1959 Moline, IL
Peter Minnaert: 7/4/1865 St. John-In-Ermo, Belgium to 7/1/1917 Victor, IA
Wife Louisa Marie DeBaets 10/3/1870 Annawan, IL to 7/8/1926 Victor, IA
Petrus Bernardus Minnaert: 9/17/1824 Kaprijke, Belgium to 3/11/1896 Atkinson, IL
Wife Rosalia D’Have: 3/21/1833 St. Laureyns, Belgium to 4/30/1912 Atkinson, IL
Gregorius Minnaert: 5/11/1789 Sint Laureins, Belgium to 5/24/1849 Kaprijke, Belgium
Wife Francisca Laurenys: 12/31/1786 to 7/12/1847.
Franciscus Livinus Minnaert: 5/24/1752 to 3/11/1831, Kaprijke.
Wife Joanna Marie Geeraerd
Livinus Minnaert: 3/3/1706 Kaprijke to 4/16/1776 Kaprijke.
Wife Petronella Jacoba Claeys: 1/20/1726 Kaprijke to 8/31/1775 Kaprijke.
Lieven Livinus Minnaert: 1/18/1663 to 10/13/1729 Kaprijke.
Wife Anna VanAcker: 1670 to 3/11/1745 Kaprijke.
Lenaert Leonardus Minnaert: 5/26/1622 Kaprijke to 8/28/1681.
Wife Petronella Stappaert.
Gabriel Sen.
Hi, I am looking for information on the Carrette (sometimes spelled Carette) family from East Flanders. My great grandmother was Maria Ludovica Carrette born 7 May 1858 in Knesselaere. Her parents were Ludovicus Carrette born 26 Apr 1828 in Knesselaere and Rosalia DeVis born about 1827. They had two children I know of Maria and a brother Petrus born 22 Jan 1856 in Knesselaere. Ludovicus's parents were Bernardus Carrette born about 1790 in Knesselaere (I think) and Catherina Gyselbrecht. They had 4 children that I know of Carolus, Ludovicus, Petrus and Augustinius.
Any info on Carrette, DeVis or Gyselbrecht families would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Barb

My family tree has missing branches! I am looking for information on ancestors WHILE THEY WERE IN BELGIUM. I have a Maria de Wulf born in Assenede around 1866 and her husband Emile de Vrieze born in Boekhoute around 1861. Maria's parent's names were Livinus de Wulf and Rosalia Modde. Were they born in Belgium? They lived for some time in Holland, and had a daughter there in Terneuzen, also named Maria Louisa. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

John. I just read one of your post's about finding people from Belgium. May I ask for some advice? I am trying to find and information on my father n laws family which came from Audenne Belgium. His name was changed when they came to Canada. Could have been Von or Van Heurter. Pronounced Her tare, His parents were Florent Heurter, Annie Wilson. I have no clue as to their birthdates except my father n laws, which was June 27, 1906. They moved to England where he was schooled until they boarded the SS Metagama from Canada in 1919. Can you please advise me as to where to start. No one living has this information. There was also some mention of Germany being involved. How true that is I have no idea.
Sincerely
Janet Heurter

Bernardus Franciscus D'Huyvetter

I am desperately trying to draw a link between the last D'Huyvetter ancestor in my family tree and his parents. Jacobus Francies (or Franciscus) D'Huyvetter was born about 1928 in Watervliet, Belgium and was married to Seraphina DeSmet (who died in a convent in Bassevelde, Belgium) in roughly 1914.

I have not been able to find Jacobus' parents, although I have a suspicion his father is Bernadus Franciscus D'Huyvetter, who was born in 1802 in the same general area as Jacobus. This information is all located on the Church of Latter Day Saints genealogy site. The ages would be right for Bernardus to be Jacobus' father, but I can't seem to find the proof anywhere. This is really important because on the LDS site, Bernardus' ancestors are listed back into the late 14th century.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Dhaenens: looking for info on Dominic D'Haenens, circa 1840
Hello,

I'm looking for information on one of my great-great
grandfathers: Dominic D'Haenens,
who was married to Virginia DeHoover.

They were probably living in and around the Ghent
area of Belgium most of their lives (around Deinze,
or the small towns outside of that), around 1840,
give or take 10 years.

His children who immigrated to the US around late 1880's
to 1910's were:
Gentil Dhaenens,
Baziel Dhaenens,
Julius Dhaenens,
Karl Dhaenens,
Marie Dhaenens,
Irma Dhaenens,
Amand Dhaenens
Henry Dhaenens,

Possibly others.

It is also possible that Dominic Dhaenens was also
married to a Marie, since some of the above that say
they are brother of each other, but they say their mother's
name is different: i.e., Gentil says his mother's name was
Virginia, and Julius says his mother's name was Marie,
and yet they list themselves as brothers on the
Ellisisland.org manifests.

One of the manifests even lists Marie Dhaenens' address
in Belgium:
"Doorsnedestr. 127, Vynckt"., which is actually
a street in Vinkt, as of Sept. 1923.

Anyway, any information I can find on any of these
would be great.

Thanks,
John

I have many missing pieces to my puzzle and would be grateful for any info. The family is mostly from Rupelmonde but are also in Brugge and Antwerp and a few in France and South Africa. We're the only ones in the USA.

Thanks for all of your time and help and I would be more than glad to return the favor.

Eileen

I have his last know address as: Mr. Henri DeRouck, Bruullos-6, Oudenaarde 9700 Belguim. That was a address from 1984, that older relative found recently. Can some one please tell me how to research to see if he died there or somewhere close. Sincerely , Genna
