Hi,
I have viewed your long ago post and was wondering if you have a Francis Duytschaevers in your data list? She would be my great great grandmother. Unfortunately I have no birth date or other vital data, only that she married Bernard Dekesel and had one son that I know of, my great father. I Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Elaine Isgrig
eisgrig@yahoo.com

We are seeking records for Seraphim Eugene Clement van Hove and his wife Elisa Marie Vyane, whom we believe were born in Ghent/Gent, Belgium, in 1836, probably marrying there before emigrating to Roubaix, Nord, France.
Any clues from anyone would be much appreciated. We don't speak the languages necessary to find the relevant records, I think, unless you know of any internet sources in English.
Thanks so much.
Emma

Bonjour Jean-Marie,
It's been some time since our last contact. You said my line was not of Frans Van Laeys. I have a letter from St. Cornelius Church in Ruien stating the following:
Benedictus Van Laeys(Benoit) born 12 Mar 1798 died 25 December 1858 @ 62years old filius Francisci and Maria Joanna Condrie maritios Reginae Van Geersdaele. Regina Vangeersdaele died 1873 filia Philiberti and Gabriellae Vlieghe Regina was 76 years old.
Paul Provos did the search and connected Benoit to a Benoit Van Laeys perhaps born in 1782 and Catherine De Bunderie this Benoit died 21 Dec 1858.
Is it possible for you to read the death certificate for Benoit Van Laeys born 12 Mar 1798 and find if he was married twice?
Merci
Marie Van Laeys
Hello,

I am very excited to hear from you! My father Robert Stephens is the Grandson of Dorthea Irena DeRidder who would be Alphonse's sister. She died at the age of 25, so we have hardly any info on her. We have been trying to find any information on my Great-Grandmothers line, but it has been difficult. I have put a lot together about her brothers and sisters and have found all of their ship records and have tracked them on census records. I only know her parents names from marriage certificate. My Mom had been in contact with some descendants of the Varewycks, so we have quite a bit of inf on them.

I have contacted a professional genealogist in Belgium, she should have more information within the week.

Please let me know if you have any more information about cousins or anything else, or if you would like to see any of the info I have.

Please e-mail:
karimeup@yahoo.com

Thank you,

Kari Anderson

Hi,

I am trying to trace or find out here to trace some family members who were born in Grammond (Geraardsbergen) in East Flanders in the 1880's. In particular Theodor HUWE born on 22 Dec 1884 and his wife Louise WILFRIED born 15 Oct 1888. They both emigrated to the US in about 1907 and I have the history onwards. It is the Belgian connection and records I am trying to follow.

I would be grateful for any advice or information.

With very many thanks

james

I came across some information-I hope it helps somebody. My Grandmother was Hortense Van Hauwe and married Edward Staelens. I just found a death card for a Julius Malbranke born Jan. 2, 1873 Belgium died May 22, 1948 in Lansing, Michigan. He was a roomer at my grandmothers house. So most likely all name I'm entering are Belgium. The Casket Bearers are: Charles Sargeant, Edmund Denameth , Herman Van Hee, Oscar Delange,Achiel Martin, Emil Claweart. I have the funeral book and it is signed by several names I have never heard of. If interested email JoyceGS55@aol.com

searching Stevesyns

Dear Kathryn (Hillebrand,
My name is Liliane Stevesyns. A few years ago I got curious about my family history. Unfortunately my father could not tell me much, since his parents were very secretive. His father only had 1 brother and they were not on speaking terms. I think I once heard it had to do with a situation during the war. They both had opposite opinions.
A few years before he died, I met my dad’s cousin and he gave me a copy of the ‘descendants of Mattheus Stevesyns’. Since it was in English I presumed it came from the States.
Now I have decided to become a member of a family finding club and I hope they can help me make a start. In the meantime I have searched the Internet and found some interesting information, like : Bernard Stevesyns, born in Caprijcke (now Kaprijke) 18/02/1866, arrived at Ellis Island, New York in 1903. He left Antwerp by ship ‘Vaderland’ (=native country). I can only guess that he might have been an uncle to my grand father, brother to Leonard. There was no more information about him.. I noticed that my name is on your list.
This is the little bit I know about my family :

Leonard Stevesyns (b. Caprijcke 16/10/1861) x Sofie Wauters (b. Lembeke 12/07/1861)

Children : - Cyriel Stevesyns (b. Caprijcke 13/04/1895, d. 01/08/1977) x Martha Buyck (b. Caprijcke 20/06/1901, d. Kaprijke 18/08/1981)

Grandchildren : - Adelin Stevesyns (b. Kaprijke 09/03/1926) x Julia Buyse (b. Sleidinge 15/02/1926)
- Mariëtte Stevesyns - female (b. Kaprijke 1929) x Wilfried Grison

Great grandchildren : - Liliane Stevesyns (b. Sleidinge 23/08/1951) x Peter Van Wynsberghe
- Marleen Stevesyns (b. Sleidinge 15/12/1957) x Carlos De Taeye

Great great grandchildren : - Roeland Van Wynsberghe (b. Gent 25/11/1975)
- Brecht Van Wynsberghe (b. Gent 31/05/1979)
- Rozelien De Taeye (b. Gent 14/08/1980)

I noticed that there are 2 different spelling ways : Stevesyns and Stevesijns.
At the moment the Belgian website (www.familienaam.be) says there are only 41 people of that name now living in Belgium. That makes me even more curious!

I also found some minor things, like details of prayer cards, handed out in church at funerals, unfortunately in Dutch, and the existence of a Father in a monastery (Joost Stevesyns).

Could you please mail me back and tell me whether you descend from Bernard or not, or perhaps about another link that might help me?
I would be very grateful. I send you many kind regards from ‘Het Meetjesland’, the part in the North of Belgium where our roots lie.
Liliane

Basiel VanGheluwe and Hortence Herman (1862-1925) had 7 children: Oscar (1892-1962), Irma (1894-1922), Emma (1895-?), Zulma (1899-1956), Helene, Georges, and another son. I'm looking for any relatives, birthdates, deathdates, anything. I have pictures of everyone but no information.

Zulma married Maurice Van Wazeele and had a son, Daniel.

Thanks for anything you can provide!

I think my VanGheluwe ancestors may have come from this area, immigrating to the US in 1892 and again in 1912. I would really like to talk to anyone who may know anything about VanGheluwes from this area, as we seem to have hit a roadblock in our research. Thanks.

I'm looking for any information on any DeCosters/Dekosters who came to Michigan from Watervliet, Belgium. My great-grandfather was born in 1884 and his brother Clement Dekoster was born in 1902, so I'm assuming they have a lot of siblings. They had a sister I know about named Elsie, who married a DePauw. Thanks.

My Great Grandfather, Joseph Lambert was born in Brussels, Belgium. He married my Great Grandmother Victorine Dewaele. They had my Grandmother, Alice Lambert. My Great Grandfather was killed in 1916 in WWI. I believe his parents were Camille Lambert and his wife's name was Mathilda. I am working on our family history and am at a bit of a road block with their family. During the war my Grandmother, Alice moved to Middelkerke ( Flanders ) to live with HER Grandparents, while her mother stayed in Brussels to work. Any information on their family would be greatly appreciated. It's hard as they all spoke different dialects of the language. My Grandmother came to America when she was 20 years old and her mother remarried to Cyril Feryn. My Grandfather was also from Belgium, but he was from Kortermark ( Kortemark ). He came over to America when he was very young. His name was Michel Cool, Parents were Joseph and Victorine Cool. They all settled in Lyon County, MN ( Marshall is the town ).

Thank you in advance for ANY information someone may have!
Cathy
otlakerat@tds.net

She was born in Vrasene Belgium in 1885. Dorthea died after having there third child and Vetalis remarried Marguerite DeMaere also from Belgium. Dorthea had a sister who lived in Norway, Belgium named Elizabeth Franchisca who was married to Frank C. Vaerewyck. I believe her brother Alphonse DeRidder also lived in Norway Michgan.

Vetalis also had a sister Maria Hortense Van Puymbroeck who came to Baker also. She was married to Peter DeBaker. I also know that Ivo Spriet and Adolph Van Wynsbright (Wynsburg) were witnesses at Vetalis's second wedding in Baker City Oregon. I don't know if they fit into the puzzle, but they are both from Belgium.

If anyone has any information on any of these people please let me know. Or if you know of any ways of getting information from Belgium please let me know.

Thank you,

Kari
Denise,
Have you tried contacting the Center for Belgian Culture in Moline, IL. The address is 712 18th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265 phone # 309-762-0167 web address www.belgianmuseumquadcities.org. They are open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1-4pm. They may be able to help as they have special collections and archival materials there and in the Rock Island County Historical Center (822 11th Avenue Drive, Moline) I live in the Quad Cities and could also scan the local phone book for Van Wassenhove's if it would help
Good luck on your search
Barb

Auguste Danneels and Rosalie Mortier are my great-great-grandparents. They immigrated in 4/1888 not 1890. There were 12 children listed in ships register. Rosalie died the following summer in Detroit as did the infant Honore. I have been searching for records as well in Ursel. Did you have any luck?

Hi Cathy

She has 4 siblings

Elizabeth (known as Sister Francis Borgia) 1911-1993
Joseph 1913-1952
Francis (known as Fran) 1917-1994
Agnes (known as Aggie) 1922 -

Antoinette and Aggie are currently living at McCormick Home in Green Bay, WI. I visited my grandmother over Memorial Day weekend and she is doing well.

Of these siblings, I knew Sister Francis Borgia the best. She was a Notre Dame nun, teacher for many years. She was retired in Milwaukee when I was going to school there. Stood about 4' 11" tall but had a big laugh and big personality. She was the most educated of the 5 kids, had a master's degree. She entered the convent at age 14 to help support her education. She could not speak english when she entered grammer school as the family spoke Flemish Belgian at home.

Aggie and Fran married 2 brothers - last name Peters.

I have attached 2 pictures - one of Anne and Frank wedding picture and the another of the 5 kids in front of their old homestead.

Doug
dkonop@specialtyforest.com
