Evergem, East Flanders Civil Registration docs on FamilySearch

All,

My husband's Belgian ancestor Gustave Damien Schoone, was originally from Evergem, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium - born in Feb 1883. I see Family Search just updated their Belgium, East Flanders, Civil Registration 1541 - 1910 database yesterday. However, when browsing thru to the Evergem images, the data only goes to 1870. Does anyone know if they just haven't uploaded the images yet or if maybe the documents past that year were destroyed?

TIA,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca:

I don’t have an answer for you, just advice. The below-link has, I believe, the address in Evergem where you can write to request Gustave Damien SCHOONE who was born on 23 February 1883. I found his birthdate in Ancestry.com in the U.S. World War I Draft Registration Card, Serial No. 1371, Order No. 225, which gives us the birth date but not the place - but you have it as being Evergem. He worked for Allegheny Steel Co. at Brockenridge, PA as a mill worker. His nearest relative was Margaret SCHOONE. He was naturalized citizen. He was blond and had hazel eyes. The card was signed on 12 September 1918 at Tarentum, PA.

FamilySearch has only uploaded the images they have on film. The records of Evergem 1870-1910 are photographed digitally and are not available on film. These digital images will only be uplaoded when fully indexed which of course depends on the amount of volunteers who are indexing.

Thank you! That explains it. I will have to keep an eye out for when those are eventually uploaded. Hopefully they decide to release the un-indexed images prior to indexing. They should put this info on the wiki for that DB.
