Looking for any info on the Biekx and Fobe family of Melsele.

Also does anyone have any information on WWI Medals.

Alois Fobe of Melsele, East Flanders, Belgium
received 1914-1918 Croix Des Deportes dated 8 April 1924 with a certificate Gedachtenis Diploma.

Bronze coloured star with Red and white striped ribbon
presented for "bravery in the field" ???

Thsi Alis Fobe was also a POW.

Any help would be appreciated as I can't seem to find any mention of these family names in Belgium.

I believe Alois Fobe was my grandfather, though I never met him. My mother, Maria Pelletier ( nee Fobe) was born in Melsele, May 12, 1923, to Alois Fobe and Sofia ( I think) Biekx. My mother had a copy of a certificate regarding a medal that was presented to him hanging on the wall - I believe it was written in French, however so can't confirm exactly what it said.

My mother's siblings were Gilbert, Margaret and Valentine ( Gilbert is the only one I ever met). If by chance you are a relative, I would love to get in contact.

Regards

Patricia

Dear Patricia ,

On my grandmother's request ( Yvonne Bickx ) i looked in to the emigration of here ant to Ontario , Canada .Here ant's name was Sylvia Fobe Bickx and she was married to Alois Fobe .

Digging a bit i found the following : on 14/05/1924 Alois Fobe crossed from Antwerp to Montréal to establish in Kingsville Ontario , his wife followed him togheter with their daughter Maria Fobe (born 12 May 1924 ) on 23/07/1924 .
They Naturalized to Canadian nationallity in 1938 at that time they had three kids Maria Fobe , Martha Fobe and Valentina Leopoldina Fobe .
Alois Fobe died in 1957 and Sylvia Fobe Bickx died in 1960 .

Further i found out Maria Fobe died 27 December 2002 in Sault Ste,Marie Canada , leaving behind a daughter Edith married to Paul Pelletier and Roy and Edith Wagner and Kathleen , Cecile and Patricia Pelletier i presume .

I'm not sure that everything is correct regarding the offspring of Maria Fobe .
But regarding the emigration of Alois Fobe and Sylvia Fobe Bickx , i'm 100% sure , i consulted the passengers archive of the red star line as well as the imigration and naturalization archive of Canada .
Bickx family here in Belgium is still a big family and who knows maybe even bigger than we thought.

Anyhow i find it all quite facinating to do some research in the for our side "lost family branch " in Canada .

Best regards ,

Vanfraechem Joeri .
