Holà / Salut !

The principal languages in the Principality of Andorra / Andorre is Catalan (Català), followed by the French language. So, most sites will be in these languages, although some have English and fewer Castilian (Castellano) « Spanish ».

The first two I list below are for genealogie societies. The others are for the best genealogy research in Andorra:

La Socetat Catalana de Genealogia SCGHSVN (Català):
http://www.scgenealogia.org/

Association Catalane de Généalogie (Français & Català)
(with info about more than 680,000 record extractions online available through Genealogie.com - pay subscription site below)
http://actes.acg66.org/actes/index.php
-- and --
http://www.genealogy.tm.fr/minitel/m-66.htm

Genealogie.com (record extractions for Andorra - direct) (Français)
http://www.genealogie.com/ (I am a member)

Arxiu Nacional d'Andorra (Català & English):
http://www.arxius.ad/

Biblioteca Nacional - Govern d'Andorra (Català & Français)
http://www.bibliotecanacional.ad/

also see:

Yahoo Groupes - GenAndorra (Français & Català)
http://fr.groups.yahoo.com/group/genandorre/

Una bona investigació ! / Bonne quête !

John William Waldo

I have received a copy of a letter with an oral history of my great grandfather John William Waldo. It states he was born in "Andorra Spain". I am aware that Andorra is a tiny country separate from Spain. My own historical search indicates he was born in the United States in 1841 but has failed to unearth family of any kind. It seems unlikely to me that Waldo is a Spanish surname but wanted to see if it is possible. I would appreciate any input from anyone who is familiar with this area.

Ramon - you mentioned your grandfather married Manuela Busto y Manzorro from Andalucia, Spain. My family, Zaragoza, is tied in to the Moreno family by marriage (Ernesto Moreno now living in Australia). My grandfather, Julio Busto, married my grandmother Aurora Zaragoza in the Philippines around 1910 or so. I was wondering if perhaps Manuela and Julio were related ? Do your records indicate any siblings for Manuela ??

Thanks, Lou Gopal

Hello!

My father Jose is the "Pitao" - not his brother Cesar. We are descended from grandfather's second wife - Rosita Lopez Jalandoni of Jaro, Iloilo.

I remember Zaide's history book mentions a Carballo who later commanded the Trinidad on its return trip to Spain in 1521. Accordingly, the Trinidad was damaged in Lisbon, Portugal - which perhaps explains the Portuguese spelling of our Surname as CARVALJO.

In the family crest, 2 family origins are recorded: Asturias and Galicia. Since grandfather (Juan Blanco Carballo) was born in Oviedo, I surmise that we are the Carballos of Asturias.

What does JP stand for?

We still have a picture of Maria, Albert and Aunt Florence. Please tell me more about Uncle Cesar and family.

There are six of us - all sisters. I am the youngest. My sisters are Norma (just widowed), Thelma (unmarried), Emma (married to a German and residing in Germany), Victoria and Fe.

In 2007,we visited our cousins Cielito and Isolde (children of Juanito) in Rochester, New York.

Have a nice day.

Juan Blanco Carballo was my paternal grandfather. My father - Jose Jalandoni Carballo - was his youngest son. As I recall, Tatay had 3 brothers: Juanito, Cesar and Ernesto; and one sister - Monserrat. Another brother - Augusto- died at infancy.

My grandmother - Rosita Lopez Jalandoni - of Jaro Iloilo was grandfather's second wife. His first wife died on the voyage from Spain. She was buried at sea. When he arrived in the Phil. he was with his children, German and Conchita. Conchita later opted to return to Spain, but German stayed with his father. German's descendants are still in Dumaguete.

My father's ancestral home is on Calle Seminario in Jaro, Iloilo. Sadly, it no longer belongs to the family. My uncle Juanito died in Cotabato during the war. Cesar migrated to the U.S. during the Commonwealth years. Ernesto resided in Guimaras until his death in the 1980's. I personally met him in 1970. Monserrat died before she turned 20. Father was the youngest of the siblings. He died in 1988 at the age of 88.

I am very interested to know more about the family. I had already met my cousins' descendants in Dumaguete and we keep in touch regularly. The children and one grandchild of Uncle Juanito also keep in touch. I am sad to report however, that my cousin Jose Isagani passed away only recently on Valentines Day. He was a son of Ruben Carballo - one of German's children.

I have more information about the family which I am willing to share with you - including the family crest which was obtained from Carballo, Spain. I hope I hear from you soon.

Best regards.

I am researching my paternal grandmother Lilian Grace KING who married my grandfather in 1916. My research for my grandmother cannot proceed as I do not have a birth date. Family "stories" suggest that she and her two brothers came to England when she was just a small child (they were much older) fleeing the problems back in Andorra. Probably relocated as refugees and later became citizens of UK. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks. Gail Briggs

Ramon, I have made a Zaragoza family tree from information I received from Edgar Krone (another Zaragoza) who lives in Manila. You may know him. I'll be happy to send you that tree if you'll email me. My email is lougopal@hotmail.com
Interestingly, one of my cousins is Bidang Moreno whose mother, Carmen Zaragoza Ravago was married to Ernesto Moreno - you may be related through that line also. By the way, all Zaragozas in Manila are related. I met Ramon Zaragoza in 2004 when we visited Manila. He was responsible for reconstructing Intramuros. A very, very nice man !

Hi,

I just read your posting and don't know if you can still be reached after all these years. I apologize for this very very late reply. My father had just recently passed away and he was in the hospital for several years. It is only now that I have this opportunity to follow up on my family search. Two thing we have in common is that our families are conncected to Rebullida's and also the surname Busto. I know the Zaragoza family here especially those related to Ramon the architect. I would love to hear from you and try to find our connections. My email is morenomanila@gmail.com. Warm regards, Ramon

Hi!
We share the same great-great-grandfather.
I descended from one of his other other sons, Herman, who went to the Philippines from Spain after his father's death.
I'm wondering if you descended from Ceasar Carballo? In the family tree I have, I think he's called Pitao.
You can see it here:
http://www.urcite.com/cgi-bin/fdata
Please email me for a password.
According to family lore, Juan Carballo's head was found in Talisay, not Silay. However, if you recount from PSC records, then I will have to correct family lore. :)
Did you know that our ancestor is mentioned in a college book? I think it was Philippine History II. But I'll get back to you on that as my uncle Franklin Carballo has one. I'll email you the relevant paragraphs when I get my hands on it.

OOOOOps! Hit the wrong key----yeah, it's still me. To continue---this RUBEN CARBALLO's father is a DR. CHOLO CARBALLO from Negros. Had made numerous attempts to get in touch w/ the good doctor because he actually went to Spain and stayed 2 yrs doing research on the Carballos.
Hope this is enough to whet your appetite for now - in the mean time, I'd better take care of poor Richard who's been so good and patient with his wife's consuming interest with her kin. Please let me hear from you ASAP---my e-mail:MSather480@aol.com Best regards

Well, here are a few "thoughts" which you recquested back in Feb 24 my Mama's (now deceased) birthday, NO LESS!!! Now how providential is that?

Anyway, I first got interested in researching the CARBALLO family lineage back in 1992 when my husband,R ichard spoke with a fellow mortgage broker located ib Miami who had the same last name as moi. This Miami-based Carballo evidently had done quite a bit of background snooping. and came up w/ a LOT of great info. SOOOOO, I immediately called my Papa (Ross Carballo, Sr.)in the RP at that time and asked for his input. It was right around this time that I also met a RUBEN CARBALLO who worked as a manager for a Filipino pastry shop franchise called RED RIBBON in Torrance, CA (now closed). Are you still w/ me?

I was very interested in reading this thread. I just began to start looking into a family "mystery". My great-great-grandfather was Don Juan Carballo y Blanco who owned a sugar plantation on Negros Occidental. He was murdered in 1899 by a band of men and his head was found suspended from a bridge in Silay. The inscription written on the outside of the sack in which his head was hung read (according to a Philippine Supreme Court record in 1902): Juan Carballo, hombre pernicioso a la revolucion. E. P. D. (Juan Carballo, a bad man for the revolution. R. I. P.). What is interesting about this is that my grandfather claimed that Don Juan was in fact secretly supporting the Filippino Independence movement and was betrayed (by a Jesuit priest) to the authorities. I'm not sure I fully believe in the innocence of my ancestor, but the fact that the charges against the man accused of leading the group were dropped by the court does make me a bit suspicious (even though the court in 1902, the Philippines were under US jurisdiction whereas in 1899, the Spanish were still in control (although would lose it that year)). Don Juan's son, Caesar Carballo, has a very interesting history as well, but I add his name here simply for a genelogical reference.

To be honest, I don't even know where to start to unravel this mystery. If anyone has any thoughts, I would appreciate them!

Thanks!
My mother is Elizabeth Yangco. She is the daughter of Luis R. Yangco, Jr. and Florencia F. Yangco. She was raised in the sugar central in Victorias. I believe her father ran the milling operations. His sister Maria Paz Yangco was married to Luis Ossorio. They had 5 children who eventually moved to the US and lived in Greenwich CT. I, too, am trying to research the family history on my mother's side of the family because I have reason to believe she was adopted. I have heard she is the half-sister of Ardis Ankerson (Brenda Marshall-former wife of William Holden). None of the Ossorios will speak about it. Yet it is accepted in many circles. Is there anyone who grew up or knew people in the sugar industry in Victorias that might shed some light on who this mysterious Ankerson person is? I think the Ossorio family might be able to tell you something about your family, Ramon Jose. I think the Coscolluelas were a major sugar family in the Philippines. Good luck with your research.

I just happened onto to this website and read your notes. Interestingly, my grandfather was Julio Busto from Spain. He came to the Philippines by way of HongKong, living with his aunt & uncle. He married my grandmother, Aurora Zaragoza and had 5 children. Aurora is one of 10 children. I believe one of them was connected to Rebullida's. I was born in Manila and stayed until finishing high school. I'm now retired and living in Seattle, WA. If we have any connection at all, I'd like to stay in touch. I have some ancestry information - perhaps we could share ?

I wish there was a better way for us to communicate. Please send any and all info you can get!!! Hope to hear from you REALLY SOON!
Paola
