I am trying to find some information about my partner Paul's great Aunt. Paul knows that his aunt went to Venezuela and then later went to America. I know that she left England from Southampton to New York in 1949. The UK outgoing passenger list & New York incoming list passenger states she was on her way to Venzuela. She came back to England in 1950 but then returned to New York in 1956. The incoming passenger list stated that her residence was Villa Matilda Ave, Vollmer, Caracas, Venezuela. This only other information is that she ended up dying in New York. Is there anyone who can help with my research in Venezeula. It would be much appreciated.
Regards, Elaine

How to trace Spanish relatives and surnames? Help!

My husband's family is from Venezuela and it's very difficult to trace his ancestors. An advice would be appreciated: where did you start after speaking with direct relatives, did Ancestry help you, how did you enter surnames on your family tree? (Did you follow the traditional Spanish way of Father's Name Mother's Name).

Hi Noeline,

I am a physician and live in Venezuela and read your post. You can find fascinating information regarding Dr. Coates if you use the following phrase, in spanish, in google: "la primera prostatectomia en maracaibo"

You will see several scientific articles published regarding your ancestor´s contribution to the history of urology in Venezuela. On Nov. 4, 1907, Dr. Coates performed the first prostatectomy in Maracaibo, the second largest city in Venezuela, (removal of a prostate gland) won him medical acceptance indeed, as it is even mentioned in the Gaceta Medica de Caracas (it is one of the links you will find furing your web search but here goes..: http://www.scielo.org.ve/scielo.php?pid=S0367-47622001000300...)

I see your last post is over 5 years old so not sure this information is useful!
Hi,
YOur post is over 10 years old. Don´t know if this information helps or hast to do with who you´re looking for. Look for www.linkedin.com and search for the name Pasquale Tufano Notaro. He works in Venezuela. I am not active on that site but did a web search for you.

There is a famous female singer, named "Kiara" here in Venezuela, that was married to a Pascual or Pascuale Tufano or Tuffano, depending on the web page you read. Misspelled names or lastnames is common here in Venezuela if they are foreign. http://venciclopedia.com/?title=Kiara and http://www.eluniversal.com/2009/03/15/til_art_cinco-pregunta... are a few links.

Good luck!

There are several Stoppas in Venezuela. I live in Valencia, Venezuela, and a friend of my brother was married to a girl named Simona Stoppa, of Italian descent. They are now divorced, and live in the US. You can look up her name in Facebook and maybe send her a message to see if she replies..hopefully she is interested in trying to find out a thing or two about her roots, too, like all of us in these forums. Or maybe you have found new information since your posts and have reconnected with your family members.

Also...Santa Cruz does not sound like a city in venezuela unless it is a small town...could it be Puerto La Cruz instead..? A lot of Italian descendants there...it is on the Eastern Coast in Venezuela.

Good Luck!

Re: Search for relatives in venezuela

Hi,
Not sure if you´ve had any luck over the past years with your siblings. I am from Venezuela and hope these tips can help: 1) If your grandmother´s father was Isaac Gonzalez, then her last names should read "Gonzalez Garcia", because for all legal records, the first last name to appear is your father´s, then your mother´s (maiden) last name. If in 1945 she was an adult, she has a "cedula de identidad", which is a legal ID with a unique number, as unique as a US Soccial Security Number. Her husband also. In Venezuela you are issued a "cedula" when very young and it is the most important personal ID document for us (at current times, you are required to have a cedula issued around the age of 9-10 years old and elementary schools may not enroll your child until he has obtained one!). Even if she has not been in venezuela since 1945, if she has a cedula number, log on to http://www.cne.gob.ve/web/index.php and where you read "consulte sus dadtos", use that number to read the exact name that is registered for that cedula, and that´s the name you should be looking for. The capital "V" stands for cedulas issues for a Venezuelan national (this would be her case if she was born here in Venezuela, as "E" cedulas are issued for foreigners. That website has names of everyone who has a cedula, even if your over 100 years old..! Are you sure her middle name is "Del lo regis"?? Doesn´t sound like any Spanish name...check the spelling..also you mention Isaac Gonzales as her father...GonzaLEZ (ending in EZ) is of Spanish origin, whereas Gonzales may be misspelled (??) or suggest Portuguese origin (Goncalvez is also Portuguese). Ines is a much more common (and correct) form than INEZ as you spell it. Tia Dora Garcia...are you sure it´s not Teodora Garcia? Tia Dora means "Aunt Dora"...check spelling again.
let me know how things go and hopefully you have reconnected!
Mariana

Don´t know if this helps but I googled the name you´re looking for and found this:

http://tachira.tsj.gov.ve/decisiones/2010/marzo/1329-2-18314...

This is a legal document from a court in Tachira State, between Venezuela and Colombia, and it mentions your relative. He was being sued, it seems, by a family member, LUCERO PAPANIKOLOPOULOS RODAS.

Let me know if you´re not fluent in Spanish, and I can read it more carfelly, but since your post is nearly 10 years old, I´m not sure if you´ve found anything with more relevance since then!

Good luck!
Mariana

Re: ISO biological father named Felix Alphonso Lopez

Hi Patti,
I am reading any posts regarding Venezuela looking for information regarding my own relatives (no luck yet --my mother´s maiden name is Plathy, seems to be Hungarian, but her grandparents died young and no information so far regarding how they arrived in Venezuela). I read your post and hope you´ve had some luck in the past years finding your father. It seems you and your biological mother do not have a cordial relationship either...but ask her if Alphonso is actually ALFONSO (more common in Spanish)?? And if Alfonso is your father´s middle name or last name..?? We usually appear with ALL of our names in all public records and government ID´s. So maybe your father´s first and middle names are Felix Alfonso, and his Last Name would be Lopez and a second last name you do not know (this would correspond with his mother´s maiden surname). Some men from Spanish families did not give their children but one name, i.e., no middle name...so this could also be the case for your dad: Felix (only given name..no middle name) and Alfonso would be his father´s last name and Lopez his mother´s maiden name (your grandmother). I will look in local webpages here in Venezuela to see if anything comes up. I am just a curious person, don´t do any of this for anything other than helping those who may need to be fluent in Spanish and to live in Venezuela to understand a few things.

Hope all of this is in vain, and indeed you have reconnected with your biological father. let me know if in the 9 years after your post you´ve had any luck.

Take care

Mariana

The only help I could give you with the little information you have is that there are not castles in Caracas, never have. The closest to that are the forts in La Guaira, all the castles and forts left in Venezuela have belonged to the Nation and never to a particular. No factory from that time have "survived" to the day so it's not possible to search that hint either. Do you know something else?

By the information you have, it's very hard to confirm whether your friend's grandfather was the son of a Venezuelan president or not, but it's very unlikely.
Taking only the facts you mention, he went to the US between 1918 and 1920. The presidents of Venezuela by those dates were Joaquín Crespo (1899-1903) and Juan Vicente Gómez (1903-1935). The proposition “de” in the name Josefa de Borges indicates she was married to a Mr. Borges. There isn't a president named Borges in all Venezuelan history. The social security number is a useless date here in Venezuela because it's a US document, if you could find his Venezuelan ID number you could check it in http://cne.gob.ve/web/index.php and you could find his real name or his Venezuelan name. Since he was born in 1903 he'd have 15 or 17 years old when he emigrated, that means he probably had an ID number at the time. The address probably doesn't exists anymore, there are very few houses that old in Caracas, most of them were changed for buildings.
There are other hints, historical and cultural, that make me think that he wasn't the son of a president, but possibly of someone related to politics, maybe in a high position, maybe someone who opposed the government. Juan Vicente Gómez was a dictator and many people was tortured and killed in his period, a many many others ran away. I think that might be what you're looking for. If I find anything else I'll let you know.
In Venezuela, obituaries only say when and where the funerals will be and relatives' names, so it's very unlikely you'd find something interesting in it, considering that you already have the date of death, besides there's no register of obituaries per se, so it's very difficult to find one that old (1973). The only way would be searching papers from that time (if the obituary was actually published). Good luck.

I live in Venezuela where my great gran father named Quirico Prosperi arrived in Carùpano circa 1870. And dedicated himself to the export of cocoa and his two sons (Pablo and Martin) became the largest exporters of cocoa in Venezuela.
Still todavía one of the great sons of Martin, Alejandro is one of the leading exporters of cocoa in Venezuela.
Quirico emigrated from the town of Brustico in Corsica and married Ms. Antonieta Luccioni from Carleto a close by town.
Any living relatives around the world? Puente Anauco 216, Caracas.

I tried entering that address into Google but looks like it's no longer valid. I wonder if there's anyway to see where that address would have been in 1920, and if that would have been associated with a particular parish.

possible son of a president, but name changed after escaping to US

I am doing research for a friend, and I was wondering if anyone here could help direct me to Venezuelan birth records.

My friend's grandfather was known as Hector Mariano Bremont in the US, and his SS Death Index lists his birthday as 21 Nov 1903. The family story is that he was the son of a Venezualan president, but came to the United States to escape possibly deadly politics and changed his name once he came to the US. My friend's family doesn't even know who his father was, but now is interested in seeing if it's possible to track it down.

I have been able to find very little information so far, but thought I would toss this out here to this group in case anyone has any pointers for me.

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/33690536/person/18517771342

Social Security Death Index:
Name:Hector Bremont
SSN:102-03-5841
Born:21 Nov 1903
Died:Aug 1963

1930 US Census indicates that he came to the US in 1918.
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1930usfedcen&a...

Naturalization record in 1943 unfortunately does not mention immigratioin date. It does indicate his middle name is Mariano, though. http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=usnaturalizati...

I found a passenger list from Venezuala to New York (he spent his life here on Long Island) with a Hector Bremont, which is a pretty unusual name combination, but it is from 1920 not 1918. I've seen plenty of incorrect dates on docs in my own family research, but I don't know if someone would be off by 2 years or not just 10 years later.
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=nypl&h=401....

That's pretty much all I know. I've asked Chenelle if she could order a copy of his marriage certificate from New York to see if that has any more details about his parents or hometown in Venezuela.

One thing I'd like to look into is if the birthday on his Social Security Death Index record is correct, I'm wondering if there is any way to search for a Hector Mariano (last name unknown) born in Venezuela on 21 Nov 1903.

I can't find anything on Ancestry, but does anyone know if there's someplace else to search?
I am researching the Santelli family. Leon Santelli originally from Corsica settled in Carupano Venezueula sometime in the 19th century. He married Catalina Sisco and they had eleven children: Armida (1) died at 16 months, Angel, Leonsito, (Jesus, Ramon, were twins), Armida (2), Domingo, Mercedes, *Francisco,Constanza (Tanny), and Margarita.
*Francisco who married Dolores Real in 1917 in Trinidad West Indies, was my grandfather. Any information on the Corsican, Venezuelan or worldwide family connections on this Santelli family would be appreciated.
My ‘e’ mail is doctorgking@aol.com
George King.

I am researching the Del Real / Real family. Jose Maria Del Real who originated probably from Andaluz Soria Castilla Leon Spain and settled in Cuidad Bolivar Venezuela. He changed the family name from Del Real to Real.

His son Antonio married Carmen Galindo and had two children, Antonio Maria Real and Pancha Real.

Antonio Maria Real married Maria de las Nieves Alcain and they had six children: *Antonio, Ramon, Pheulepe, Maxima, Nieves, and Petra.

*Antonio Real married Petra Samarra and had one daughter Dolores.

Prior to *Antonio Real's marriage to Petra Samarra, he gave his land in Colombia on the Venezuelan border to the lady that he had a relationship with and had at least one child. One son attended St. Mary’s College in Trinidad West Indies probably early in the 20th century. I do not know if he took the Real name.

I would appreciate any information on this family from Spain , Venezuela or worldwide.

George King.

George King.
doctorgking@aol.com

My grandmother had a nephew named Joseph Kocar. I don't know which of her sisters was his mother, but her maiden name was Repnik and Joseph lived in Moste, Slovenia in the 1960s. Does this match anything you have?
