Hi,
Have you had any luck with charting this family? I think that either the children did not remain or had families before they returned to the UK. My family's surname is McAdam and I am discovering that there are other McAdams also from Guyana who I do not know.

We should definitely collaborate our information! Please feel free to email me at hca586@gmail.com

Hi, I'm not sure where I fall into this picture but my last name is McAdam and my family is also from Guyana. My grandfather's name was Charlie McAdam and his father's name was William McAdam who married Amina Khan.

It seems as if either the children of Michael and Catherine McAdam did not return to the UK or had families before they left. Or, perhaps my branch of McAdam stems from one of the children who did remain.

I know there is someone from the UK who is also looking to see what happened with this family.

Maybe we can all collaborate on information. Please feel free to email me at hca586@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Re: John Payne Blount and decendants

John Payne Blount died in London c1836/37, according to his son Arthur. [Claims to Land in Demerara 1892, p 14, claim No 101]
A man named John Payne Blount died in Islington, London [Registrar's District], in Jan-Mar quarter of 1840 [vol. no. 3, page 137].

John Payne Blount was in Demerara by 1810. He was reported [then a formal requirement for everyone planning to travel abroad] as due to leave the Colony in January 1813 [Essequebo & Demerara Royal Gazette]. He was reported as leaving the Colony of British Guiana with three servants in May/June 1815 and there is a will in Georgetown of John Payne Blount, a native of Barbados, which was deposited on 13 Feb 1840. [Deeds Registry, No 12 of 1840] A John Payne Blount is said to have married ‘Mary Elizabeth W.’ at St Joseph in Barbados in 1815 [IGI – but no details and no precise date].

Blount had a business partnership with Charles Benjamin, as Benjamin & Blount, which was dissolved after the death of Benjamin in 1825. The firm claimed to own:
- the wood lot Seba [Lot 57 Bercheyck]
- and the Coomaka Lands on the East Bank of the Demerara River.
In January 1870 transport was made of a John Paterson Blount’s half-share in Pln Windsor Castle to William Branch Pollard by JW Davson, special attorney of Blount; Blount's address was given as: No 42 Highbury, New Park, Middlesex. [Royal Gazette 8 Jan 1870]

At the 1881 Census a John P Blount, age 56, unmarried, born British Guiana, who worked as a Commission Merchant's clerk, was lodging with the Blackman family at 38 Milkwood Road, Lambeth, Surrey. Also lodging in the same house was Mary I Spencer, age 69, unmarried, born British Guiana.

Some questions about Bellamy

Hello,
My name is Régine. I know you haven't been to your account for a long time but i hope you will see this message.

I am the granddaughter of Sinclair Bellamy, born in Georgetown Demerara December 13th 1892, British Guyana, emigrated to France.

The father of Sinclair was Abraham Bellamy and his mother Therese Power (or Poyer, we are not sure of the spelling). We think Sinclair had 9 brothers and sister. One of his sister was named Teresina (maybe a diminutive for Terese, Teresa or Terry). She died in 1957.

Sinclair Bellamy arrived in France approx in 1900. This last clue gives me idea that maybe William and Sinclair were cousins or relatives and decided to travel in the same time for Europe.

It seems that Sinclair Bellamy went first in England then in Belgium (Anvers) and finally in France.

Hoping you will answer this post, any info will be welcome, even if you are not sure of the reference. Thanks you, Cordially, Régine.

Dear Melissa,

Wow! I never thought that I would finally be able to make contact with the "Guyana" side of the family again. I have been trying for a couple of years now!

The catalyst was, of course Matthew French Young's book, which gave details about your grandparents wedding, which in turn gave the link to Perreira via Ancestry.com. I always thought that MFY was family -the photo of him in the book is a dead ringer for my father (1918-1999). They would have been second cousins, I guess. The artistic side also figures with the Greenock ancestors. The details about David Young fit, and David's parents were....Margaret and Robert.

I am based in England and can be reached by e-mail at:

alistair461@live.co.uk

Yes, there is family.

Can provide you with a lot of info if you are interested.

Looking forward to hearing from you -please send our best wishes to your mother.

Many thanks for coming back to me so quickly -I'm so pleased that we have finally been able to get in touch.

Alistair

Dear Alistair,
Thank you so much for contacting me. Getting your email was such a joy. I had gotten a few, but no hope of any in regards that were of any family connections. I will say that yes, Great Uncle Matthew is the brother to my grandmother Margaret Young who is married to Cecil Pereira. Great Uncle Matthew passed away in 1998 and was a great artist as well had written a book, have you read it? Margaret lived to be 101 and passed away in Dec of 2000,can you believe that. I do believe she would of lived longer but since my bother had passed the year before, she did not want to live any longer. He was named for Great uncle Matthew and born the same year as you. Your response also comes at a good time as I will be going down to visit my mum this weekend, and she has all the old pictures of Guyana. I will see if there are any of David Young etc. You now have my curiosity up as to the rest of the family.
Thank you again for contacting me. I will be in touch. Also, where do you live, and do you have any family? How can I get in touch with you besides ancestry?
Melissa

Dear Melissa,

I am the great grandson of John Young, born 1859 in Greenock, Scotland. His brother, David Young, born 1857 emigrated to British Guiana in the 1880s.

My grandmother Dora Young (nee Paterson) (1890 -1989)kept in touch with the family in British Guiana/ Guyana for some years, but subsequently all information has been lost.

My aunt (Clarice Young) recalls a Margaret Young visiting her family in Newcastle UK, possibly in the 1920s or 1930s. My aunt recalls Margaret as being very attractive and a good tennis player. Was this your grandmother?

Was your grandmother the sister of Matthew French Young and daughter of David Young? Matthew's sister Margaret married Cecil Pereira.

Do you have any information about David Young? I believe he died in Georgetown in 1911 and prior to that had a rubber estate at Mabaruma Hill NWD. Are any photos in existence?

I have been trying to find out more about the family in Guyana for many years -the break through came this afternoon when I discovered that Matthew French Young's brother in law was Cecil Pereira, that then put me onto this site.

If there is a family link, I have info on David Young's family and life in Scotland.

Kind regards

Alistair Young (b. 1958)

I am seeking any and all information regarding the Blount family in British Guiana. I know of John Pattison Blount and his mother Mary moved back to England some time before 1851. It may have been the death of his father John Payne Blount that precipitated this move. I do not have a date or location for John Payne Blount's death. Iknow that there are at least two Blounts still in British Guiana but have not information about them.

Emma and George had six children, Charles (my Grandfather), William, Louisa, Albert, Julia and John. George had a wife before Emma also called Emma. Emma Croal died 9/6/1892, Canungera, Queensland. Emma (aged 16) scholar and her sister Anna N. (aged 13) scholar were listed on the UK census 1861, Berkshire. Have not found any more info on them in Berkshire.

I have now found Emma came to Moreton Bay December 1869 on board the ship "Light Brigade"

Hello everyone, I need your assistance in regards to finding my long lost Indian ancestor. I have been talking with the older generation of my family including that of my extended family who I share the common ancestor with and it seems that I have hit a wall.

Basically, we started out with my deceased grandfather from Guyana. On his birth certificate, it listed his father's name but no Indentureship number meaning that his father was born in Guyana. So this means my great grandfather was possibly the first generation of my family outside of India and in Guyana. Now, my father was not born when his grandfather passed. But, my dad's oldest cousin was a young boy when he had passed. Meaning we could do the math a bit and have a range of about a few years of when my great grandfather would've passed.

So as of right now, we don't have a year of birth nor year of death of my great grandfather so that we can the parents name and indentureship number. We only have my great grandfather's name, a range of years that he would've passed away, the knowledge that he had worked for Port Mourant estate and/or my great grandfather, AND the village and area that was administered from the local post office that he had lived in and had died in.

Now, with all this information, is there some document I can dig up to offer me more clues to narrowing the search down to get ahold of my ancestor's Emigration certificate? Would having a range of years of death, the fact that he had died
in his village in Corentyne, Berbice, and his name suffice to dig through death records at the Registrar's office and retrieve his birth year and from there get his birth certificate which would have his immigrated parents' names and indentureship numbers?

Any help would be great and blessed.

Thank you.
