Family from French Guiana

My dad, Harold Green, is originally from British Guyana. He briefly worked for the US military in Cayenne, French Guiana, about 1943 to 1944, where he met a lady named Lia Oder (maybe Lea Ode or Odday) who had a stall at the market. He was about 22 years old and she was about 32 years old at the time. She had moved from France to Cayenne.
She apparently had twin girls for my dad, their names are Michelle and Maerta or some variation of that spelling. Lia also had a son named Roger Legrand from a previous relationship, Roger apparenly lived in the US.
The twins surname might also have been Legrand also but I'm not sure. My dad returned to British Guiana after the twins were born and basically severed contact with his girls and their mother in Cayenne. My family only became aware of these issues a few days ago and I have been searching the internet to try to locate my sisters.
Any information about our lost family will be dearly appreciated, thank you.

Here is the link to find the overseas provinces of France, such as Martinique/Guadeloupe/French Guiana aka Guyane, St Lucia,etc. http://anom.archivesnationales.culture.gouv.fr/caomec2/
This link has births and deaths up to 1900. However, Martinique goes to about 1909 I believe.

I am not sure about ship records etc.
Check the following also for possible info.

I know it's been a long time since the last reply but I was hoping that you might point me in the right direction. I went to the link that you so kindly included in the last message and went to the Guyane website but I think it says that there is no research material available online. Am I wrong? I figure I must be looking in the wrong place.

Any help would be much appreciated! I'm looking for the Dautriche and Lacuad families...

The link below will give you all the access you'll need for the 1800s for now. Most of the records stops in about 1900. Some like Martinique will go as far as 1909. I am looking for my ancestors also.

My name is Maurice Pierre. Pierre comes from my mother's maiden name on my grandmother's side Julianise Pierre, if Julianise was her real name. However, the name Julianise is documented on my mother's birth certificate from St Lucia. I am looking for my great grandmother Phyllis Bonaire or Bonnaire or Bonheure born (Noel) on my grandfather's side. I believe Phyllis if that was her real name lived in St Lucia but apparently died in January 1914 in St Laurent Du Maroni French Guiana. My great grandmother's mother was apparently "Zachette Marie Noel or Margaret or Marguerite Antoine who lived in St Lucia or Martinique. Zachette owned and worked a farm at Robert Estate Corinth St Lucia from Ravine Marie Therese to Ravine Robert. Zachette apparently died in May 1909, I do not know where. Any info would help. Thank you

Ihave an Arthur Ralph Declue in my line. I have being born in 1906. Place of birth is unknown to me. I also do not have a spouse for him. I do have Arthur Ralph as the father of three sons.
1. William Ralph Declue born 09 Oct 1927
2. Donald Declue born 1935. No other information known
3. Joseph Melvin Declue No other information known.

I know your posting is about 10 years old and you may have the information you seek. If this is your line can you fill in some blanks for me? BTW, I am a Declue descendant. My maternal grandmother was a Declue.

Im looking for Pierre Baguet. He was a cipir in French Guyana(saint Laurent Du Maroni) back then, in the period 1953 (he was then round the age of 34). He origionally lived in French.

I have just read a biography that says a gentleman immigrated to "Kokembo in South America". I cannot find any such place and assume that "Kokembo" is misspelled. So, I am posting this question in every forum for every South American country. When I found out that there are Serrant's in Jamaica as well, I started to wonder if there could be a connection with Dominica. You have just confirmed that for me.Do you have any more back ground info of your Dominica ancestors? I am trying for years now to trace the Serrant's roots in the Caribbean, due to the fact that I was told that all Serrant's in the Caribbean are related never mind the different spellings of that name. Are you interested in genealogy? If so would you be willing to work with me to help find out more about the Serrant ancestors?

He was born in Jamaica
His father came from Dominica
I do not know the name of his parents
he had six children about one to two years apart each
starting in about 1900

Hiw wifew was Edith Maud Serrant ( nee Lamard - from Lebanon)
in 1924 he helped repair Maccus Garvey's Ship Starline and there is an entry for this in a book called Marcus Garvey abd the UNIA at page 644
he was an inventor and he lived off the proceeds of his inventions in addition to having a foundry in kingston, jamaica
There are many landmark wrought iron fences and railway gates that still bear his mark in jamaica including the famous fence at Victoria Park in Downtoewn Kingston I am hoping that this information will help to find if there is a connection between your family and mine

Hey My Grandfather is Eric Serrant and he was born and raised in Dominica. I don't know the name if his parents but his mother is still alive and currently resides in Dominica still. Hope my information is some sort of help.

Hi my name is Gary Serrant, i reside in Bradford England. My father is Alan Serrant and lives in Dominica his father was Josh Serrant brother to James Serrant. Their is quite a few Serrant's based in Bradford. we have been in contact with Emelda for a long time and i think it's time that we try to co-ordinate something for the family tree. We have such an interesting family. A lot of us are trying to get to Dominica next year for the Creole Festival and the 30 year Independance celebrations in October\November.

Hi everyone. At the moment I'm seriously researching the Serrant/Serant family tree. Wow! Much of the info that I've come across on these boards fits in with what I already know. Linda - did your father live in Bradford, UK? If so, that's my great uncle James and my father is Philbert Charles son of Bernice Serrant, James's sister. My great-uncle left the United States for South America ca. 1899/1900. He was a copper wire drawer, having learned the trade in the UK. He lived in the US from 1879 until he disappeared around 1899. He may have gone to South America.

Any reference to Nick Spargo, a.k.a. Nicholas Spargo living in South America ca early 1900's would be helpful. He birthyear is 1860 or 61.

Nicolas Poussin Transported 277 East Indians to Cayenne

The ship the Nicolas Poussin, captained by Mr. Galland, left Pondichery, India on Sept 11, 1864 and arrived in Cayenne on Nov 30, 1864. There were 277 Indians aboard. There were 195 men, 54 women, 14 boys, and 14 Children less than 10 years old. One man and one woman died from typhoid by the time they reached Reunion which was one of the scheduled stops on this voyage which took forty-days. Of the 277 Indians 12 men, 5 women, and 2 of the children were from Karaikal. J. Plomb was the ship's surgeon 2nd Class.

ok, im only 16 so my grandparents are younger than yours. and still alive. however i noticed that names in your family are similar to those in mine. for example my brothers name is louis Serrant and my grandfathers name is John Serrant. if you can find anyone in your family married to the surname 'John-Baptiste' surname. let me know. and also we are from Dominica.

JOSEPH MENDES DE ABREU and AGNES (GOMES) DE ABREU married in Georgetown, British Guiana beetween 1920 and 1930.
They moved to French Guiana and had 4 children there: Manuel, Joseph, Elmira and Olga.
It is possible that theirgrand children are still alive living in French Guiana.
Please let me know about these relatives once that Agnes was my grand mother Celestina (Celeste)'s sister.
