Did your great grandfather come from Italy? My great great grandfather was Bartalma (Baretti) Raymondi. Came from Piemonte Italy to United States about 1872. The story was after he settled in Texas, he wrote to his brother to come, but the brother borded a ship to South America instead of North America and was never heard from again.

Searching for information on Mercedes Elena Diaz de Contreras (b. ca 1830) or her husband Emilio Diaz (b. 1835). There are records of 2 of their children, Maria Elena and David Washington Teodoro, born in 1888 and 1889, respectively, in online Chilean baptism records. They were each born in Santiago and baptized at Iglesia San Isidro.
I have seen each listed elsewhere as Emilio Diaz Gallegos and Mercedes Diaz de Contreras Alvarez, but have no hard sources to verify that these are indeed the people I'm looking for.

Did you find what you were looking for. Manuel and Carmen Oyarzo in 1870 census for Contra Costa County,Cal. Manuel drown in the San Pablo creek in 1874. He is buried with wife in Saint Marys' Cemetery, Oakland,Cal. His family carried on in the Oakland area. This is my family. I have much more info. if you are interested. I am an American working in Kabul and am researching some of the graves in the European cemetary here. Sadly, most of the stories and identities of these people who traveled around the world to be buried here in Kabul are forgotten.
Above is the link for a grave I am researching. It is one of the more interesting ones on the site. The text on the headstone reads:
"In loving memory John Charles Elcoate of Linwood, Lincolnshire aged 24 and Wendy Margaret Mills of Eastham, Worcestershire aged 19 Both of Sheffield University, shot near Shahjui August 4, 1971
I am seeking to piece this story together and if there are any Elcoates that have knowledge of the incident, I would appreciate hearing from you. My email is richwill21@gmail.com

I did send Sara a descendant chart on the George Walker Grace Gibson family but have never had that ackowledged and did not receive any information from her.

I am not descended from the Walkers but it was Robert Alexander who was married to my great grandfather.

As an aside, I do have the original marriage registration of George Walker & Grace Gibson and they were not married at Carstairs,

Hi to Eileen and Sara,
I am also related (distantly) to this family tree. Robert Alexander Walker was the brother of my GGGrandfather William Gibson Walker. In my research I've been unable to go farther back than George Walker's and Grace Gibson's marriage in Carstairs, 17 Feb 1837. I knew about Robert's daughter Juanita, but not the rest. I do, however have the name of Juan as being Robert's son. Is this incorrect?
William Gibson's descendants eventually led to the birth of my grandfather (George Guy Gibson Walker) who moved to Canada with his wife and first-born son in 1925.

Hi Robert,
I have an interest in the John Elcoate you mentioned. John Elcoate died in the 1960s. He was my great grandfather. Elcoate's decorating supply shop was run from 56 High street until the early 1980s (although John Elcoate had died in the early 1960s). I would be particularly interested in any of John Elcoate's correspondence. I attach a picture of 56 high street as it was as "Elcoate's"

DO you have any family members back in the days that may have worked on ships? Do you have other names of cousin,brothers etc etc? Sometimes in our research,we tend to focus on one name not realizing that other family members were there and may have used only one name instead of their full name. Example Michael Nichols Janos Soltes. Any infor would be helpfull.

I thought you may be interested to know that my brother has some documentation relating to a Mr John Elcoate dating from 1920 and 1947. They are deeds for property at 56 Hight Street Yarm between a Jennie Preston and John Elcoate who's occupation is stated as painter and decorator.

Is there a connection to your John Elcoate?

Jane Wylie married Robert Alexander Walker 24 Jun 1873 Valparaiso, Chile. Robert was born 09 Sep 1848 London, England s/o George Walker & Grace Gibson.

They had (known)children:

Roberto b c1874 Tamaya, Chile.
William b c1881 Chile.
Juanita b c1887.
Jack Walker b unknown.
Annie b c1891 Chile.
Patricia b 05 Jun 1895 Scotland.

Robert Alexander Walker likely died before 1901.

Jane Wylie Walker was listed as head on census of 1901 Lanarkshire Scotland.

The sons Jack and William are noted as nephews of William Washington Wylie and are living in Canada in 1921 (William Wylie's obituary).

I would appreciate any information you have on this family. Regretably, I am unable to translate the Spanish on your wonderful website.

Wylie and Walker, may not immigrate to Canada. Their children were born in Chile the years: 1887, 1888 and 1891. One of his sons married in Santiago in 1910. One daughter is a single mother in the port of Valparaiso, Chile, 1921. Other information can be seen in "The Walker family in Chile" www.walkerchile.blogspot.com

I am a Chilean but I'm l not living in Chile at this moment.
Circa 1863 my gggrandfather Wiliam Bate is working as a doctor in a chilean ship in Valparaiso where a big british community already exist .
We don't know the exact date of the marriage yet but the name of mi gggrandmather is Francisca (Luisa) Toledo
They had 11 children.
We know he come to Chile from England to help with the birth of our Navy .
So, What i believe is that this marriage to your ancestor must have taken place before meeting my gggrandmother.
What else could you tell me about it?

A William Bate from England around the same year married my Great great grandmother.
He too was working as a doctor in a ship.
I am pretty sure they are the same person only the name of his wife is not the same.
There is another person also looking for him,she is from ingland and you can find her @ curiousfox.com. Her name is not given nor her email address so i have not able to contact her.

Not much in the book I'm afraid.
On page 200 there is a "...at Chanaral we hear of...A. Challew (sic)...". On page 226 "....Coquimba...."Dick" Chellew (sic)....".
No mention of Gonzalez.
The names above are amongst a list of others, and the book does not elaborate on what occupations they had or anything more - merely the name.

If it is not to much trouble could you please check the book for my father's family? I was told a number of years ago the book mentions Bill Chellew, Dick Chellew and my great grandmother Elcira Gonzalez. Bill would be my gg grandfather William Reynolds Chellew and Dick would be his brother Richard. Elcira was married to William's son Edward.

Durnig my last trip to Chile I have found out the following about the Rosson family.
Juan Rosson Basualto marries Clotilde Cole with whom had several children. One of them is Luis Armando Rosson Cole.
Luis Armando Rosson Cole married Teresa del Pino Geister with whom had several children, some of them are Regulo, Teresa, y Ernesto.
Regulo Rosson del Pino married Nhila Lagos with whom had 3 children, Celso, Lilian y Marcelo. Regulo also had a child with Rosa Nilda Vega Tarque, Icaro Rodolfo Rosson Vega.
I have more information, but I am not ready to release them as yet.
I still have a big question, which it might be relevant to the Chilean Rosson family, I wonder if anybody can help. In the first half of 1800 a gentleman named John Rosson left Sydney, Australia, and arrived in Valparaiso, Chile. I have no more information about this Rosson. I say it could be related because the name John is translated to Juan. I appreciate any information. Thanks. Icaro Rosson

Thank-you for your reply & offer to do a look-up. I am interested in the surname Tyrer. Juan & Jorge Tyrer had a shipping company called J. & J. Tyrer. I don't know when it was started but it went out of business after WWII. Their father George Tyrer was born in England. Any info on this family from the book is greatly appreciated.
