My mom was told there was a fire in La Paz in the office that housed birth records..
Her grandmother had lost her records in the fire, she said she was born in 1888, so the fire occurred some time after that..

Give me a day or two & I'll dig up a few items re WGT'd travails. I think I have a photocopy of a 1909 letter either from him or about him, re his protesting his innocence in response to some accusation.

Many thanks for your interesting posting. It sounds as if William Greenslade TREDINNICK had an interesting life in Bolivia! I was not aware of the Jesuit gold story or his brush with the law in 1909. I wonder what that was about and how I can find out more. I will try to get hold of those books from the 1930s.

Just encountered your queries. I met Dr. Felipe Tredennick in 1987 in La Paz when my wife and I were researching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's adventures (and death) in Bolivia. He opened some doors for us.

William G. Tredinnick (spelled variously in different records) is mentioned in Mark Stead's 1936 book Treasure Trek, and as well in Col. Percy Fawcett's 1935 Lost trails, Lost Cities, though not by name, just as a Cornishman in trouble with the law, and in Stratford D. Jolly's ca. 1930 South American Adventures. WGT got mixed up in one or more expeditions to find the mythical Jesuit gold treasure at Sacambaya. Mythical in that it doesn't exist. He also got in trouble, that is, was accused of a crime, in 1909, though I have no idea of the disposition of the case.

Thank you for replying to my request. Perhaps I should start by saying that I am tracing my relatives purely as a hobby and I am happy to share my discoveries with family members. I am a retired mathematician from England who now lives in Canada.
I will not ask you for personal details of people who are still alive, but I will add any details you are prepared to give to me into the family tree. I will not pass details of any living person on to anybody else without your permission.
I would like to find out where and when William Greenslade TREDINNICK married Maria ABASTO and where and when he died. Any information about when he arrived in South America would also be welcome.
I am happy to let you have more information on the ancestry of William Greenslade TREDINNICK if you are interested.
I have William's ancestry through the MEDLON and GREENSLADE families back to the early 1700s in the village of Bovey Tracy in the county of Devon in England. You and I share Ann GREENSLADE (born 1803, married John MEDLON 1826) as an ancestor. That makes us fifth cousins!

Many thanks for replying to my post about the TREDINNICK family in Bolivia and Brazil. It is great to make contact with a distant relative (in more ways than one!). I am related to the TREDINNICK family through the GREENSLADE family which I have traced back to the early 1700s in the village of Bovey Tracy in Devon, England. My great great great grandmother, Ann GREENSLADE, married John MEDLON in Exeter, Devon, in 1826. They had a son, William Greenslade MEDLON, who married Harriet Horrell in 1850. They had a large family, including Emily Greenslade MEDLON, who was born in 1862. In 1880 she married Philip TREDINNICK, a tin miner from Cornwall, England. During the 1880s the mines in Cornwall were going through a bad time and Philip decided to try his luck in Bolivia, leaving Emily at home with a son, William Greenslade TREDINNICK (1881), and a daughter, Margaret TREDINNICK (1884).
Philip never returned to England, but his son, William Greenslade TREDINNICK decided to follow his father to Bolivia after a few years in the army in England. He too never returned to England and I am told that he is buried in the English cemetery in La Paz.
However, he married Maria ABASTO in Bolivia and I understand that he had 4 children - Jack (1925), Eileen (1930), Felipe (1932) and William (1934). I know that Felipe was an ambassador for Bolivia and that he died on 1 July 2007. I also know that he had several children but I do not know all their names and dates of birth. I understand that Felipe's brother, William, moved to Brazil.
I will not ask you for personal details of people who are still alive, but I would like to find out where and when William Greenslade TREDINNICK married Maria ABASTO and when he died in La Paz. Any information about when he arrived in South America would also be gratefully received.
I am happy to let you have more information on the ancestry of William Greenslade TREDINNICK in exchange for any details you can give me about the family in South America.

I met Phillipe Tredinnick in Brazil 30 years ago. He had been the Bolivian ambassador to Peru but was in exile when we met. I met Eileen Tredinnick in La Paz, Bolivia 20 years ago. She was Phillipe's sister and daughter of William Greenslade.

I am looking for a Donald Stewart. Born in 1878 of Scotland/ or Tombstone, AZ. He passed away on June of1925 in Oruro, Bolivia. In the past he had been a minor and we believe that he was still one while in Bolivia. He had a relative by the name of David Stewart or sometimes known as George Wilson. He also had a close friend by the name of Gaspar Nicolls.

The gentleman's name was John Clinch. He immigrated to somewhere that sounds like "Kokembo" from England in about 1853. Shortly thereafter (within a few years), he immigrated to California in the U.S.

What is the gentlemans name? I had a relative in mining in Bolivia who got tremendous rich in mining (San Jose Mine).
His name was Andrew Penny, and his friend who also got fortunes out of the mines was James Duncan.

I just came across your 2002 reply to my 1998 posting asking about Chinels in Bolivia. That's very interesting - my great-great-grandfather was Jorge Chinel and he indeed was a landowner in La Paz. My great-grandmother was actually his illegitimate daughter - her name was Ena, and she married my great-grandfather, Alfredo Valverde, who was a lawyer. My family still lives in a house in La Paz that I believe was on land that was owned by Jorge Chinel, and there are murals painted on hallway walls that I think are landscapes of other pieces of his land. I also own a diamond ring that lengend holds he (Jorge) won in a poker game.

Do you have any more information about his marriage and his children? How are you related? Thanks, I would love to hear from you!

Hi, I am interested in the TREDINNICK family in Bolivia and Brazil. A relative of mine, William Greenslade TREDINNICK, left Cornwall, England and settled in Bolivia sometime around 1900. Can anyone tell me how to trace the family? I believe that the Bolivian ambassador to Brazil was a TREDINNICK but he died about a year ago.

Hello. My grand father was George Aitken and my grand-mother Julia Soux. They had 5 children: Jack, Georgette(my mother), Cristina, Woodlock and Percy. Woodlock died very early but the other four brothers and sisters havec had children who now live in Bolivia and in the States and I live in France.
