Buenos Dias, Liliana
At this time I do not know where my John Hughes and Maria Hughes lived in Argentina. All I know is that they arrived Buenos Aires in 1931 but I do not know where they went after that.
I know my John Hughes (b 1891 in Ireland) travelled to Buenos Aires on 18 May 1926 on board the ship AVON which left from Southampton. The ship's papers show that he intended to live in Argentina.
It would seem that John met Maria Williams who was an Argentinian after he arrived. It would seem that they both came to England around 1930 and they married on 8 June 1931 when he was 40 and Maria was 36 years old. I am checking the churches in London to see if I can trace the marriage. Maria had been married to a man called Williams but it would seem he died as when the got married in May 1931 she said she was a widow - so I assume her husband had died.
After they married they returned to Argentina in July 1931.
At the moment I do not have sufficient information on them in Argentina to start specific research there. After I have finished my searching in London and find the marriage I may be in a position to start searching in Argentina.
I see there are over 200 people in Argentina with the surname Hughes in the telephone book and you are right it would be a lot of work to contact them all.
When John Hughes returned to Argentina in 1931 it was stated that he was a citizen of Argentina so it would seem he had applied for citizenship between 1926 and 1931.
I will have a look on Facebook and see if I can find anything.
If you are ever researching in Ireland or England please contact me and I will see if I can help.
Many thanks for the information you have given me.
Adios
( Sorry, I only have a few words in Spanish!)
