I've stumbled across the message on Ancestry and meant to reply some time ago. I'm descended from Alma Martha Lowe, Walter Oldfield's daughter.
I had a chat with my Mum about a year ago. It seems that when Walter William died, my Dad's mother mentioned that 'someone you don't know has died'. The impression Dad was left with was that there may have been some family split between the three later children and the first two. As far as I know he never met them.
My Mum wonders if it was related to the virulent anti-German feelings that were prevalent in Liverpool during and after WW1 - did the first two children turn against their German-named step mother???. Having said that, Dad said that this mother could only speak Spanish when she arrived in the UK.
As far as I know Dad (or Mum) have no info on Walter Oldfield's first wife.
Dad is no longer around to ask for info. His memories of home were fragmented, and he didn't say much (he was away at school for a lot of his childhood), and my Grandad (Alma's wife) was a very quiet man.
We've got a lot of disorganised paperwork to go through with Mum - if we find anything we'll let you know, but it is likely to take ages.
