Oh my goodness! This is the first time I've seen a document for my family in Sweden. Yes this is them! Christ Mattson and Mathilda Andersson both came to America in 1888, but I think they met some time later. They married in 1894. I understand that many people in Skåne speak a different language than the rest of Sweden. Christ and Mathilda spoke only English at home, and I suspect it is because it was their only common language. Almost everyone where they lived was from Sweden or Norway, so their children grew up hearing English mostly from non-native speakers. As a result they spoke English with a very heavy Swedish accent even though they spoke no Swedish. The girls married and moved away, and their accents faded, but the boys stayed and farmed. I could barely understand my uncles at all!
Thank so very much for all of your help!
