I was always under the impression that Scandinavians gave their children surnames with son or dotter in them.
So if the father was jon the daughter/son was jonsdotter/jonsson etc.
But where does the name Lundgren come from? My ancestors surname was Lundgren, as were his siblings, but the father was called Olof so should the surname not have been Olsson?
I found a birth for my ancestor on the Family search website and it lists my ancestor as olof Olsson in the baptismal record.
Can anyone explain to me where Lundgren came from or if it means anything?
Thanks
