You start with yourself, and work your way up -
Your grandfather Fredrick Nansen, b. 1902 - where was he born?

Here shows the chidren of Fridtjof Nansen:

Here are two different message board postings that might be of help. They are not well done because there seems to be many names repeated in the family, but the posters have not put dates for them.

A researcher named Falsterden did a great job laying out the explorer Fridtjof Nansen's family, and it seems that probably they are not related to the Samoan Nansens.

Nansen is one of those names, son of Nan - which could belong to unrelated people. The 2nd link above should bring you to Falsterden's research, and here it is too.

As mentioned above, in 1922, Hans Øivind Nansen ( son of Alexander, born 22 October 1900) traveled to North America (docking in Canada), per Norway Digital Archives emigration database. I suspect he is an ancestor of several posters. Link to departure record:

Canada, Ocean Arrivals (Ancestry.com)

Architect Odd Nansen (son of Fridtjof) traveled to USA 1927-1930 (at which time wife Kari was with him, per 1927 ships manifest) and returned to USA in 1936. 1936 Passenger manifest says Odd is age 34, born in Borum Norway, nearest relative is Kari Nansen, their residence is Lysaker, Norway. Odd is traveling to the Biltmore Hotel in New York. Traveling on the Drottningholm and arrived New York 20 Jan 1936. Returned to New York again in 1946, representing the Norwegian Red Cross. He also flew to New York and arrived 10 Oct 1956.

Fridtjof Nansen's son Kaare Nansen seems to be the person signing on as a crewman on the Oscar II in 1923 and arrived New York; on the link is a departure record for Kaare in 1929, going from Oslo to Canada via Bergen and England:
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/en-gb/gen/vis/8/pe00000...

And another trip, in 1932, for Kaare. Click on the view document link to see that he's a forester, traveling with wife Elizabeth, nearest relative in Norway brother Odd Nansen in Lysaker by Oslo, traveling to father-in-law A.L. Miller in Dakien, Connecticut:

Perhaps Kaare and Elizabeth were returning from a honeymoon trip. The Reading Eagle newspaper announced their marriage in its 12 July 1931 edition, saying the couple would spend part of their honeymoon in Norway. Elizabeth is called an internationally known dog-sled racer:

Elizabeth is part of the long Wright family genealogy posted in this thread (twice).

Kaare is memorialized at Find a Grave, Montreal:

Fridtjof Nansen's son Odd Nansen (married Karen Hersh), Find a Grave:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Na...;

Fridtjof's daughter Liv Nansen married Andreas L. Høyer.
Fridtjof's daugher Irmelin Nansen married Axel Julius Revold. She traveled to New York 1919.

In short, many records available for this family.

Here is a Family Tree on Family Search for Baldur Nansen (Fridtjof's father).
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:2:SYZJ-GL7

Baldur's father is listed on this tree as Hans Leierdahl Anchersen /Nansen. I don't see (as far as this tree goes) where Hans Leirdahl had a son John, brother to Baldur, who could go to Samoa/Fiji. So you can see I did look - and I cannot find the path to the South Pacific. One would need to start in Samoa/Fiji and work back in time, to find out the truth of the Nansen clan there.
