The Family Group Sheet can be a little limiting, just as simple data entry programs can be. They can be geared toward the common everyday and do not always allow entry points for variations or potential controversy.
I capture all of the various name that I encounter including spelling variations. The same for any and all variations on events that I come across, including ones that are disputed. Since I can control the output of any reports from my software I tend to not care about making judgements until I can say "based on a preponderance of evidence." Yet I still do maintain some of the "bad" data in case I need to reference it.
Genealogy is not cut and dry. Sometimes twists occur and your documentation needs to be able to retain, maintain and index those twists. I learned long ago that paper does not have the flexibility of GOOD computer software. I emphasized "good" because some simple application don't always fill the bill. I have training and experience in software engineering, database design and library science so I've seen some well design applications and some poorly designed applications in many different business environments.
