I was told once that Norwegian farm names ending in "stad" are some of the oldest farm names in Norway. Is this true? My Grandpa was born at Lystad in Skiptvet Parish, Østfold, and the farm is right on the Glomma River.
Are there any other indications, name-wise, which can indicate an older farm?
