I am seeking my elusive g-g-grandfather on my mother's, mother's side of the family, the above-noted, Anders Lorentsen Reitan. He appears on p. 133, Vol 1, of the Melhus gardshistorie bok as the father of Ole Andersen Oeyaas (phonetic spelling), but only in a parenthesis,
and apparently mispelled as, "Lorntssen." (Many thanks
to my friend, and tireless researcher Ardell Sortomme
Drube for the source material.)
Given the apparent birthplace, or farmname of, "Reitan,"
I have searched the 1801, 1865, 1875, and 1900 Norwegi-
an census records for the 14 Reitan farms that appear in the Rygh Norwegian Farm Names database, including as many permutations of the spelling variants of, "Lorentsen,"
and "Reitan," as I could think of, but still without success.
I've also surveyed the Norwegians in Minnesota census of 1880. While it may be, and probably is the case, that my search criteria are somehow defective, I would be grate-
ful for any information, and/or counsel on how to proceed further.
