Could you send me a copy of the Sophia Kirmelewicz Shisko birth or death certificate? I hope to read the place name. Because of Polish and Russian occupations very often they say the person came from Russia or Poland even when the territory belonged to Lithuania. The surname Kermelewicz is polonised. The real Lithuanian spelling is either Kirmilas or Kirmela, but I met a man whose Lithuanian spelling sounds similar to what you have in your research - Kirmeliavicius. Btw Vincentas Kirmeliavicius never changed his Lithuanian spelling of the family name.It was just like it was used in Lithuania, even on the door plate. His son Joseph changed it to Kermelewicz later. That's what Nick shared.
