You must have read my post before I edited it, as there was supposed to be a space between Gift and smedesvend: Gift means married, and a smedesvend is a blacksmith, so that fits.
By mid-19th century, the patronymic naming custom was fading out in favor of permanent surnames, and the female suffix -datter was being dropped in favor of -sen, so during this period the same female will often appear in different records with either suffix.
