I am searching for my Danish relatives from the late 1890s. Most of the children emmigrated to the United States and settled in and around Hartford, Connecticut. They were originally from Arnakke in Holbaek. Names and known dates of birth include:
Peter Nielsen, b. 7 Oct 1869, immigrated in 1892 and settled in Glastonbury, Connecticut (farmer)
Dorothea Marie Nielsen Sweeney Powers (my great grandmother), b. 1878; immigrated in 1894/5, died in 1967 in Hartford, Connecticut (have Danish emmigration record, Ellis Island record, marriage and death certificates, some photos)
Anna C.C.N. Nielsen, b. ~1871, immigrated in 1892, lived in Hartford, married Peter Larsen, survived the San Fransisco earthquake in 1906 and also lived in St. Louis, Illinois. Found Danish emmigration record and Ellis Island immigration record, some letters some photos)
NP Nielsen (Nelson), b. ??, joined the US Navy, served in Peking China in ~1900 and died of typhoid fever; buried in Hartford Connecticut (family lore is his mother in Denmark was paid a pension from the US military) Only have copy of handwritten note from a C.W. Pierson, adm, outlining the payments and cost of his estate, burial, etc. Listed in Hartford death register as having died in Peking China.
Andrew Nielsen, b. Jan 1856, lived in Connecticut for some period of time
??Nielsen, stayed in Denmark, became policeman in Kobenhavn
??Nielsen, name unknown, rumored to have died in Alaska during the gold rush
Their mother's name is listed on Dorothea's documents as either Johanna or Christina. The father's name is listed as John. I have been unable to find a corresponding family in the Danish on-line census.
Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please also respond to
