My mother's first cousin Lita is Niuean and she was a nurse in Samoa when she married Tupua Tamasese ?. He was the Prime Minister (my apology if this is not his title then)in the late 60's - 70's. I recall his visit to Niue on official matters when Lita's family put on a royal welcome at Lalofou, Tuapa in Niue for the visitors.
My mum was a close friend of Lita. Would like information please.
Faafetai

Malo Tomahawk,

Good to meet you. I’m in Sydney but I’d love to speak with your dad. I can see Siaki Vaatila Roberts born 1886, son of John and Eseta, in my family info. He was my great grandmother, Carolyn (Kale)’s younger brother. Thank you for that amazing photo. What year did he pass away? Did he live in Samoa?

I’m not sure what the time difference is between here and California. I'll find out and give him a call in the weekend.

Talk soon,
Rowan

Hi I'm from the Crichton family. William had a son William Crichton Jr and I am from that line. My grandmother was one of William Jnr's daughters, her name is Lola. She has a brother named Ollie who's family all live in American Samoa. I have facebook contact details for them, email me fredapenn@hotmail.com They're the only Crictons I know of in Am Samoa. Otherwise all other Cricthons were in Savaii/Upolu and are now all other the world. Good luck with your search and there is plenty of info about the Samoan Cricthon family on the internet. Would you know where I would go in Samoa (online) to look for info on a great aunt who migrated to NZ in the early 1900's. It was my grt grandfather Charles' sister. Her name was Lucy Penn Gibson. All we know is that she moved to New Plymouth. I couldn't find any baptismal records on her but did find some for her older siblings through the LDS website.

Well thanks and have a good one.

Cheers
Freda

Hi Freda, Salu and Charles Penn are the only ones I have in Magaiagi but it is only a partial list. The others could still be there

Tufuiopa in Ifiifi St, is a closed cemetery, now under Lands and Survey Dept control, previously under Police Dept. This may be the one you mean, but there are no Penns included. However the lady who did the transcription remarked, in 1975, that this cemetery was "a genealogist's nightmare. Many many tombstones are smashed and/or missing. Pieces of the tombstones lie everywhere or all mixed up in piles".
I think you should have records in there too for Geoffrey and Joanna Penn, Geoffrey and Charles are brothers? Can you please check.

I'm looking for a burial site though for John Herbert Penn.

Hello...

I'm researching my family on the Silva a.k.a Silveira or De Silva side from Lotofaga, Samoa. My Grandmothers name is FUALAAU MARGARITA SILVA which is my fathers mother. We are interested in finding out who our Grandmothers family is and acknowledge all those who are interested in finding out the same. This is the info that we've come across the net so far...so the name Silva came from a man named AUGUSTINE SILVEIRA from the island Faial, Portugal. He was a priest and then left priesthood to work on a whaling ship and then jumped on a ship to Lotofaga, Upolu Samoa. Changed his surname from Silveira to de Silva when he arrived in Samoa. Met and married Mele the daughter of Susu and Iulia Fiame from Lotofaga(as it says on our family tree). They had 5 children JOSEPH b.1855, AUGUSTINE MANUEL b.1860, CATHERINE ANNA MARIA(who married MONTGOMERY BETHAM)b.1862, LOUISA(who married GUSTAV KRONFELD)and MARY(who married O.KOPSCH). If you are connected to these names then feel free to reply we'd love to get to know the extended family. Also if you are connected to any of these names....AUGUSTINE MANUEL(who married CAROLINE SCANLAN)and their 8 children JOSEPH(who married KALALA HICKS),EUGENIA a.k.a Senia(married ARTHUR KRUGER and 2nd husband ALBERT STEHLIN), AUGUSTINE(who married MELE BEN ALLAN), MAGGIE(who married FRANK PARTSCH), MANUELE LEAENA ILE SOLO(who's my Great Grandfather and married FAALANIGA SCHILLING-FIAME) and THERESA MARY(who married CAPTAIN OSCAR ANDERSON). If your connected to these people, have pictures of them or whatever info you have we'd love to hear from you and just find out about the background and get to know our Grandmothers family. P.S I have attached a pic of my Great, Great Aunty Louisa Kronfeld nee Silva and her husband Gustav Kronfeld.

And if anyone has any information regarding the Schilling family in Samoa then feel free to post as well. My Great Grandmother Faalanigas mothers maiden name is Schilling.

I was feeling inspired to research more on my dad's (Marvin Frederick Patrick Reid) side of the family and my sister is actually Margaret who posted the first message in 1999. Haha! I did a search on ANCESTRY.ORG and there is only basic information on GHC Reid and his children. Thanks to all of you for the extra information and websites. I did not know that GHC was buried in Apia but I travel to Apia often for vacation and am currently living in American Samoa. I also attended a Reid reunion in Los Angeles back in 2006-2007 and it was great to meet other Reid family members that I have kind of been estranged from my whole life. I hope to be able to meet all of you guys someday.

Malo Bruce. Good to meet you. You are so lucky to have Aunty Lily to talk with. My mum, Heather Hughan, asked for you to please say a big hello to her next time you speak. I have started recording mum's memories too. According to her, our relations were always really surprised at how much your mum looked like my great grandmother, Kale. I have a lovely photo of her and her daughters, if you would like to see it. Quite a few of Kale's siblings died in the flu epidemic in Samoa around 1918. Which sister was your gg grandmother? I was given a family tree by Aunty Loa Scott.
Like Caroline/Kale/Kalele/Carrie, Lily is quite a popular name in our family. I remember a beautiful girl called Lily who ran the store at Falealili in the 1970s when we lived in Samoa for a time and used to go down to the village to stay in the school holidays. I hope Aunty Lily knows something about Captain Roberts as my searching has not been successful at all. We went to look at his grave (and Kale and Eseta's) at Vaovai and my cousin says the graves survived the tsunami. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care, Rowan

My dads brothers in Samoa have since changed there last name back to McCarthy. All I know is that my great grand dad was full Irish. My fathers name is lailai faumuina but has the title name Pulotu. There are McCarthys out there who's real last name is Fuimaono and asked if they you could use the surname McCarthy back in Samoa. That's all I know and I'm over Faumuinas coming up and saying we are related when really we ain't. My dad is from saleimoa and my uncles still live there. If it rings any bells please post something.

I am searching for information about my great, great, great grandfather Captain James (Simi) Roberts who came to Samoa some time in the early 1800s. Where did he come from? Why did he go to Samoa? He married a Samoan woman called Fa'alealoa. Captain Robert's grave is by the waterfront down at Vaovai. I would love to find out more about him. Among their children was a son, John (Sione) Roberts, born in Salani in 1831. Sione married Eseta Lealiifano who was born in Vaovai in 1833. Their daughter, Carolyn (Kale)is my great grandmother. Any information about this family would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Rowan

She married Peseta Fa'aumuumu & they had my father - Levale, uncles Eteuati (RIP Papauta), Pasene (Papauta), Heperona (Christchurch NZ), Fa'aumuumu (Hawai'i) & aunties Faufau (Fugalei) & Alofa (Tulaele I think). After he emmigrated to NZ in the late 60's, married then family (me- Fetalaiga, brothers Eteuati & Taeao, sister Tali'itai) we now in Sydney. Use Peseta as our surname.
