The Pitcairn Islands are nowhere near Australia! They are closer to South America, on the other side of the Pacific!
Their offshoot, Norfolk Island, is relatively close to Australia, and is controlled by Australia.

Apparently, I am Quite Wrong. I just looked up Adamstown and it is in the Pitcairn Islands, a territory of the UK off the coast of Australia. Soooo, apparently, I need Newcastle, Australia. Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention now instead of my finding out months from now!

Are you sure you have the correct board? This board is Northumberland in England, it has a Newcastle upon Tyne but I cannot find an Adamstown. As far as I recall the main papers were and are the Newcastle Journal, (morning) and Evening Chronicle.

Percy Dudley Goble died on March 6, 1938. His obituary appeared in the Newcastle Morning Herald on March 9, 1938. His address at death was Adamstown and his funeral was at Newcastle Anglican [Christ Church] Cathedral. Does anyone know how I can obtain a copy of his obituary? Please email me at kjennings03@comcast.net Thanks very much.

I am Jessica, your moderator. Please play nicely and do not feed the energy beasts (aka trolls). This board is to service the needs of people researching their ancestors from the Pitcairn Islands, which was settled by the mutineers of the "Bounty" and their Tahitian wives. Many Bounty descendants moved to New Zealand and Norfolk Island, though about 50 still reside on Pitcairn.

A revamped PitcairnIslandsGenWeb is coming soon. Till then,

JB

ROSS Archibald or Alexander Fettes

The story in my mother's family was of a male relative surname of Ross who was supposedly aboard the Bounty. This male then stayed in the area ending up on one of the islands, where he was the only white male and was made the King!

We have checked ships lists and don't think he was aboard the Bounty. The story must have been embellished over the years and the likely males are either Archibald Ross(b 1833) or Alexander Fettes Ross(b 1837) both from Scotland. Their dates of birth are after the Bounty anyway. They could have left Scotland on ships as they were in trouble at home or could have been press ganged as men were in those days.

If anybody knows of a white man being made King on one of the islands or knows of any descendants we would love to know.

HI, I have noticed that we have the same name. As I have seen a few websites that you have done concerning other people and their ancestory. I was wondering if you knew anything about the last name Bonner and where it comes from.
