I am guessing that you haven't seen his conduct record - you can view it online at http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.h... He returned to Tas and his Conditional Pardon was approved in April 1851. He would not have been allowed to return to England under a Conditional Pardon, however this doesn't mean that he didn't. His indent is not available online, but you should contact the archives office for a copy as they usually list names of parents/siblings/spouse. http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/reference

I have found two newspaper reports of his trial if you would like them, but the only family info is that he was from Wimborne Minster and married with two children (though his conduct record says one child) His sentence was commuted from life to 7 years. If you would like copies of the newspaper articles please contact me via the ancestry member contact and give your email address.

Regards

Debra

Hi Christine,

Thank you.Yes, she lived on Norfolk for 86 years! and had 5 children but no one knows if she was actually married. I will try your suggestion but if you come across any other info please let me know. Someone must know something.Kaiee was born on Norfolk in 1888 and died in 1974 there so it's strange there isn't someone who is acquainted with her. a real mystery!

Dear Pete,
I am not connected in any way, but in looking at your problem, I presume that Kaiee lived on Norfolk Island, and married? there. All the Anglican marriage and bith records, plus banns and burials, for Norfolk Island, are available as PAMBU microfilms. So are the 7th Day Adventist records
PMB 423-C of E records 1871-1971
PMB 425 7th Day Adventist records 1891-1970
THere are also other films from the Norfolk Island Historical Society.
I suggest you get in touch with PAMBU to ask where the nearest library to you which holds these films is.
pambu@anu.edu.au
or www.http://rspas.anu.edu.au/pambu/
Christine

The account of the times printed in the Dorset County Chronical, July 24,1845 provides this brief description of the Henry Warland (on bail).
The prisoner is a married man, the father of a young child, and a respectable tradesman, carrying on the the business of a plumber and glazier in the town of WIMBORNE MINSTER, DORSET.
The sentence handed down was "that he be transported for the term of his natural life. Sources obtained from Ancestry clearly shows the sentence was for 7 years transportation to van Diemens Land.

Clarence Herbert William Swift born London, England in 1916. He married Annie Orchard in England in 1945. Family story says he went to Norfolk Island and became a property owner and fruit grower, not sure when perhaps 1950s. He was probably known as Herbert or Bert.

Are there any records available for Norfolk Island that would enable me to find out what happened to him? Perhaps death registration, probate/will or electoral register?

If not, can anyone tell me what sort of crops he is likely to have grown on the island?

Hi again Luff.
I have that information from a printed family tree which I got from Uncle [Ernest] Bill Kirk and elsewhere. I made a typo on Bongard of Angmering Sussex [I inadvertently wrote Susses in my previous post]. If you would like a photocopy, give me an address to post it to. My email is M.a.u.r.i.c.e.W.i.n.nATGmail.com [leave out the .s so that MauriceWinn is all one word - apparently that helps avoid me getting spammed if you wonder why I wrote it like that]

Yes, there's increasing information on family histories as the disparate bits of information from around the world can find their way into a common pile, adding up to fairly complete history [going back 200 years]. Cyberspace is great.

Here's a link which might be useful: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ausmcguire...

Gung Ho,
Maurice

At some time he was supposedly transported on the "Sally" to Pt. Macquarie. Peter Mayberry states he was at Norfolk Island, could somebody be able to verify that for me please.

John in Sydney.

Hi,
My name is Janice and my friend's ancestor was called Hannah Pealing and she was a convict, sent to Norfolk Island and dying there in 1799. She had a daughter, and after Hannah's death, the child and the father of the child, also a convict (I think his name was Steven Martin) were sent to Tasmania. Would there be a record of her burial anywhere and does anyone have any further information about Hannah. Many thanks.

Hi, I am researching my Great x 4 Grand Father William Peate. Have only just found out he died 11/6/1795 Norfolk Island. Did William remarry while on Norfolk.? my Great x 3 Grand Mother. (Williams daughter,Anna I think) I can't find birth date for her. Only a marrage (1827)to Gullielmo MOORE in Tasmania. BUT, according to Tasmanian records. Gullielmo and Anna had one son Georgius in 1807, and another Johannes in 1827. I believe Johannes and Georguos to be twins. As both being baptized 27/12/1827 .
Is there any records I could fall back on, to clear this mess up?
Happiness

I'm assuming it must be more than family lore.
After some checking on the internet it seems that a few trees have the same info, George & Fanny seem to be married on 19/06/1829, and Georges parents are John (or James), and Lucy Talmedge.
Cheers for your help!
Kaaren

Hi,

I'm looking for information on Captain James Bongards' parents. He was captain of the 'southern cross' melanesian mission ship from 1870-ish to 1897, and made several trips each year to the mission on Norfolk Island.
In November 1877 he married Emily Rossiter (of Thomas Rossiter schoolteacher & Charlotte Bissex), and I'm looking to see what was registered as parents names (if any) when he got married.

Is anyone able to help me out with this? I've not been able to find any conclusive proof as yet of his parentage.

Many thanks
Kaaren Bongard
